The legendary rock group KISS has launched its ground-breaking "Wlcome to the Psycho Circus" worldwide tour, with dates planned through the year 2000. McFarlane Toys marks this historic event with the launch of its new assortment of figures -- KISS Psycho Circus Tour Edition, available in stores mid-January, 1999.
Destined to be a bigger success than McFarlane Toys' previous KISS lines, the figures wil feature the band members in their "Welcome to the Psycho Circus" authentic tour costumes and make-up design. Each figure stands between 6" to 6.5" tall and come with their own instruments. Front man Gene Simmons, along with Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley are featured with their signature style guitars, and come with chrome-plated, personalized instrument stands. Drummer Peter Criss is equipped with a personalized five-piece drum set, complete with floor bass, foot pedal, tom-tom, cymbal, snare, high hat cymbal and drum sticks. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $7.99 each. Each figure is sold separately.
KISS's Psycho Circus album, the first new album in over 18 years, featuring the original band members, was certified Gold by the RIAA in October, one month after its release. KISS has sold over 80 million records worldwide and has had a succession of Gold and Platinum awards (second only to the Beatles.) KISS will open the 1999 Super Bowl with its anthem "Rock & Roll All Nite."
Over 70,000 people attended KISS LIVE: The Ultimate Halloween Party concert held at Dodger Stadium. The Halloween concert spectacular was televised on the FOX Network as a one hour special. The band's world tour will center around the Psycho Circus theme, incorporating an exciting, cutting-edge 3-D technology and outrageous, theatrical presentation.
The band will make its feature film debut in New Line Cinema's Detroit Rock City slated for release in 1999. Adam Rifkin, writer of Mouse Hunt and Small Soldiers will direct this edgy, generational comedy set in the 1970's.
In 1996 and 1997 KISS was the #1 band on tour generating over a reported $150 million in ticket sales. They performed 200 shows in 24 countries to over 2 million people. Generating $30 million in tour merchandise, KISS sold over $1.2 million at the Tokyo Dome alone.
In 1997, Todd McFarlane Productions in association with Sony Signatures launched the monthly comic book KISS Psycho Circus that experienced the largest sales increase for a newly introduced comic book in 1997. McFarlance teamed with Sony Signatures and KISS again to publish Todd McFarlane Presents KISS Psycho Circus Magazine! The premier issue debuted in October 1998 and is available at all major bookstores, mass merchannts and comic book stores nationwide and internationally.
