Gene Blasts Madonna as Superbowl pick

Gene gives his feelings in a street interview about Madonna and other singers who lip sync their performances. Can’t say we blame him and his candid response makes us realize how we have come to accept such crap unquestionably.

Madonna has no business performing at the Super Bowl … this according to legendary KISS frontman Gene Simmons, who thinks the game would be better off with a “real band.”

Simmons was leaving Boa in Hollywood last night when we asked how he felt about Madge headlining the Super Bowl halftime show — to which Gene sarcastically replied, “I love all karaoke singers, I love all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes … shame on you!”

Gene added, “By the way, Madonna’s terrific … I hate the tapes.”

Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame: KISS vs Rush

It seems like KISS has unsurprisingly and once again been snubbed by the politics of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…

The Rock Hall released its list of inductees for 2012 today, naming Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, The Faces / Small Faces and Laura Nyro among the honored, while ignoring folks such as Joan Jett And The Blackhearts, Heart, WAR, and The Cure for the career-spanning honor.

But perhaps the two bands most overlooked by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame are KISS and Rush. At least, that’s what their fans will tell you.

Every year the Hall announces its new inductees and every year fans of both bands take to online message boards to voice their displeasure. In fact, of the first five comments posted on Pollstar.com this morning in reaction to the Rock Hall’s announcement, four noted the absence of the Canadian power trio, with one reader calling today’s announcement “the yearly Rush diss.”

Gene Simmons Comments on His Children’s Musical Talent and His New Times Square Billboard

Nick and Sophie Simmons, offspring of the newly married Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed made some news recently when they debuted their first performance together in Canada last weekend at the River Rock Casino Resort as part of the Grey Cup Festival.

As Rockstar Weekly covered it, “Who would have thought that the offspring of Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed and KISS demon Gene Simmons would hit the stage at the River Rock Casino as a viable lounge act? Nick and Sophie Tweed-Simmons performed four shows this weekend in Richmond, BC in their official singing debut. The duo, who performed for about an hour each, played classics mostly dating from the ’40s to ’60s from such artists as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, The Jackson 5 and Cab Calloway.”

Eric Singer introduces KISS on the Rocks

Our friend Rutger from Holland sent us this amazing clip from the recent KISS Expo in Holland. Says Rutger,

“Ik beloof, dit is de laatste spammer mbt de expo van vorig weekend. Maar deze is dan ook wel heel cool en moet je gezien hebben… Kiss drummer Eric Singer spreekt een aankondiging in voor onze band, Kiss on the Rocks. Voor wie het herkent, dit is het befaamde ‘you wanted the best, you got the best’ intro dat Kiss zelf altijd voor een show doet. Alleen nu dus speciaal voor Kiss on the Rocks”.

I don’t know either, but the clip speaks for itself. Eric Singer introduces the tribute band KISS on the Rocks before they go into an exciting rendition of DRC. Eric’s expo appearances are always an event in themselves. His participation and interaction with the fans is something everyone  remembers for years to come and his current string of European KISS expos are no exception.

KISS on VH1 Classic’s Metal Evolution

New Jersey KISS Expo 2011

Sam Dunn at the 2011 NY/NJ KISS Expo

An amazing and important 11 part documentary has somehow gone under the radar for most KISS fans, which embarrassingly includes us here at KISSasylum.com. VH1 Classic’s Metal Evolution series episode #2 appropriately opens up at the 2011 New Jersey KISS Expo as film maker and narrator Sam Dunn begs the question, “What are the origins of American Metal and how do we get to KISS?” Most importantly this show includes current 2011 interviews with Peter Criss and Ace Frehley as well as amazing concert footage from the early days.

Episode #2 has already aired but luckily is now downloadable from iTunes in case you missed out. But hang on, because an inside source has revealed to us KISS will be even more prominently featured on episode #9, Shock Rock, which airs January 21, 2012.

CBR TV EXCLUSIVE: Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley on “Archie Meets KISS”

CBR TV | CBR News Team

The confusion of KISS’s collaboration with Archie Comics is put to rest here as CBR TV explains why it’s not at all unusual considering KISS’s extensive past history with the comic book industry.

Though they may be known for their blood-spewing theatrics and hard rock riffs, the leaders of chart-topping band KISS also have a long legacy in comic books — one that continues today with “Archie Meets KISS,” the four-part story that launched this week in “Archie” #627. In celebration, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley showed up in the CBR TV Studios in LA earlier this week (sans makeup) to discuss the project and their long-standing connection to the comics medium.
