LOS ANGELES (AP) - The rock band KISS took their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in trademark KISS style - with lead singer Gene Simmons sticking out his bright red tongue. "We make a complete spectacle out of ourselves and that's our job,'" Simmons said Wednesday. He was joined by the other three band members: lead guitarist Ace Frehley, guitarist Paul Stanley and drummer Peter Criss. The star coincides with a new movie about four teen-agers who embark on a wild adventure to attend a sold-out KISS concert. The film, `"Detroit Rock City, will be released nationwide Friday. KISS has been performing for 26 years and has churned out 31 albums. The band has sold more than 80 million records and has a 1999 Grammy nomination.

Several hundred KISS fans turned out to witness the band's induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, August 11. As KISS music blared from loudspeakers, representatives of the media, VIPs including Detroit Rock City director Adam Rifkin, producers Kathleen Haase and Barry Levine, associate producer Tim Sullivan and Marilyn Manson guitarist John Lowrey, and KISS' family members stood by as the KISS star was unveiled at the intersection of LaBrea and Hollywood. The band received commemorative plaques from Hollywood's honorary mayor Johnny Grant, who proclaimed it KISS Day. Peter Criss hit an emotional note when he said, "I wish my mom and dad were still here to see this because I did it for them." "We wouldn't be here without you," Paul Stanley told the crowd. "This star is for you people. It has our name on it, but every one of you is responsible for it." Probably the happiest of the responsible horde was the artist who passed a large painting of the band up to the front--and got it returned with all four members' signatures. With Detroit Rock City opening on Friday, the promotional activities continue. Gene Simmons will participate in an America Online cyberchat today at 8 PM ET at keyword eachat, and next week several actors from the film will chat online with fans. Melanie Lynskey ("Beth") will field questions on Tuesday, August 17 at www.yahoo.com at 8 PM ET, and Sam Huntington ("Jam") will follow at the same Web adress at 9 PM ET. On Wednesday, August 18, Giuseppe Andrews ("Lex") will be America Online's guest at 8PM ET, keyword eachat. Meanwhile, the movie's soundtrack debuted on the Billboard chart at #68.

I had a great time at the presentation on wednesday. I took off work, so I could see this, and I felt a had to, because a so called freind, left me hanging on Monday. So I arrived at around 10:20 a.m. pac. time, and there was already a pretty good size crowd. Well I walked around to get the best angle I could, and at the same time looking for my bubby Mike. Turns out he was late, yet got the better position to film. And yes he had a video camera. Well Paul's son showed up first, with Paul's mother and I believe his father. And shortly after that Peter's family showed up (his daughter is HOT!!), followed by Shannon Tweed(Yummy) and family. Doc McGee was running around and someone yelled "Is KISS Going to Tour?" and Doc shouted back, "Yea, I need the Money". About 10 mins later, the final Limo pulled up and Doc walked over and talked with the boys through the window. And I forgot to mention that my buddy Mike, was 5 feet from the Limo. So things are set and KISS pops out of the Limo and stop to pose for the people that were way over on the other side of the corner, and my buddy giving me thumbs up as he's getting this all. Well they make their way to the stage as Jonny Grant, Hollywoods Mayor introduces them and starts the presentation. A couple of lucky fans got signatures, and one in particular, was a painting of the Psycho Circus comics, and Jonny Grant got KISS to sign that as well as a Gene Simmons mask, and a guitar.I can't wait to see the tape my buddy shot, because he was in the thick of it. Also in attendance were Detroit Rock City Director, Adam Rafkin, and Jerri Miller of Metal Edge. And a few fans were in Make-up, as were these 2 ladies in mini-skirts. I had fun, but I wish I could have made the premiere. FreddyMedal

Just got back from the ceremony and boy was it awesome! I stood against the barricade towards where the band got out of the limo. It was off to their backs as they were being presented. After the band hit the little stage I was a bit disappointed that I was only seeing them from behind during the ceremony but was pleasantly surprised as they made their departure. They were gradually leaving the stage to get their ride away and Gene gestured for the band to follow him to the barricade. They stepped up to the barricade RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I couldn't believe they were standing about 1 foot in front of me. Gene signed a couple autographs for the guy next to me and I reached out and shook his left hand. I then got the shake Ace's hand and Peter's as well. I was surprised to discover that Peter's hands are so tiny. Paul was about 3 feet to my left and was signing for someone but I didn't get to shake his hand. The ceremony was great! Paul's parents, son and wife were there and Evan looked so cute being led around by his Grandma. Paul kept leaning down to chat with him and eventually picked him up and someone took a family photo of them. Gene's son Nick was really struck by the crowd and smiled really big and waved at the crowd. It appeared that he was pleasantly surprised that everyone knew who he was -- I think the boy got bitten by the fame bug! The band looked fantastic and acted like 4 brothers who really love each other. They seemed to be eating it up and stuck to each other like glue! Not once did the 4 split up - they arrived in the same limo and departed that way as well. They did interviews as a group and posed for photos as a group - very much the display of solidarity! What a day! Shaking hands with 3 of them and having them stand about 1 foot in front of me for even that brief moment made the entire day worth the effort to be there. I'm so glad I went. My photos won't be available for a few days but I can hardly wait - hope I got a couple good shots!
