J Rosensteel's review:
From: J ROSENSTEEL III

Ok, here's my take on the album.

KISS has always tried to stay current (disco on Dynasty,"Def Lep" drum sound on Animalize, Pop sound on Unmasked and Crazy Nights), and I guess that's what they tried to do here. However, I think they missed the boat. What made some of those albums work (particually Animalize and Dynasty), was that there was still classic KISS sound and songwriting on the album. I think COS is lacking that.
Hearing Paul sing "I hate myself" is totally against what KISS has been about for 20 years, belief in the individual. (Lyrics to "I", "King Of The Mountain")

The breakdown of my opinion is:
Hate - first off, I hate the noise in the beginning. The groove is heavy, but I just don't like the song.
Rain - Too negative.
Tell Me - unmemorable.
Child'shood End - This song I think works well, and is probably the best track on the tape. It's great to hear Gene's voice on this one.
I Will Be There - Not bad. Not great, but I think it may be the most honest song Paul wrote for this.
The Jungle - Great music, Paul sounds good on this, definitely the highlight of his work on this album.
Seduction Of The Innocent - I don't think this song should have made the final cut.
It never Ends & In My Head - I think these songs need to grow on me.
You Confess - I think the music on this is superb, but the lyrics are a bit weak.
(Take A Look) In The Mirror - probably the worst song on the tape.

I know I'm probably going to get blasted for this review, but I was extremely disappointed. Gene has been quoted in interviews recently denouncing the same type of songs that he's written here. At the press conference, Paul said that KISS wouldn't be wearing shorts and flannel. I think they would have been if they released this. The songwriting on this album definitely came from the wallet and not the heart.
