Kevin's review:
From: KEVIN DRINAN

Here is my review:
This album is THE MOST DRASTIC change of pace Kiss has ever made. It is more of a change than Dynasty or The Elder. In fact, it really doesn't sound much like Kiss music at all. It is closer in style to Soundgarden and Alice in Chains!!
The copy I have is a few generations removed, so it doesn't sound perfect. It is, however, great for a bootleg. It is in stereo, and is very loud.

The songs:
1. "Hate" - This is a Gene song that may be the heaviest Kiss has ever been. It is in the same vein as Soundgarden's "Outshined". Gene's vocals are screamed, and the song jusy kicks. It fades in to the sound of feedback and squealing radio signals. It is a fitting opener.

2. "Reign" or "Rain" - Paul is surprisingly angry on this entire album. There are no upbeat, happy Paul songs. This does feature a very strong Paul vocal over a drop-tuned heavy riff, but he just sounds pissed off!!!

3. "Tell Me" - Another heavy Paul tune, a bit catchy but not single material...almost like "Tough Love", only heavier.

4. "Childhood's End" - One of 2 Gene songs that really surprised me. He's SINGING...almost like a '78 solo album or even a Wicked Lester style. An infectuous tune, one of my favorites.

5. "I Will Be There" - Not exactly a ballad, but an acoustic song that has almost a Led Zeppelin III feel to it. A little disappointing, but still a worthy cut.

6. "The Jungle" - This is another one of my favorites. The melody of the verse sounds kind of like AIC's "Man in the Box", but the chorus is CLASSIC Paul. This song is funky, and Gene's bass has a flange effect. His bass playing on this track sounds more like Flea than Gene Simmons.

7. "Seduction of the Innocent" - The other really different Gene tune. It has a lot of melody to it, and is one of the best things Gene has done in years.

8. "It Never Ends" - A VERY dark Paul song. He's never written anything in this style before, and it doesn't really work. A lot of the songs lack the hooks and sing-along quality of most of Kiss' stuff, and this is the least accessible. Paul's vocal is pretty impressive, though.

9. "In My Head" - An evil-sounding Gene song...very hard, but it's his "Thou Shalt Not" of the album.

10. "I Confess" - A heavy but melodic Gene tune. His vocal is very impressive, and Bruce's guitar work is kind of like "Domino", with a lot of squealing. Not a bad tune.

11. "(Take a Look) In the Mirror" - Another Soundgarden-type song, this time with Paul singing. It certainly doesn't sound like anything I'd expect from Kiss. It rocks, but it's just too different.

Well, that's it...I'm more confused by it than anything else, but I do like it. I don't think it fits in well with the Kiss style, so I really don't know how it would go over as an official Kiss album.
