I am a big fan of hook-oriented, catchy, infectious choruses, sing-along melodies and instantly memorable songs that pull at the heartstrings-the stuff KISS always has been famous for. Even though they may have went "pop" in the 80s, they did it better than the bands who were big at the time, and they still sounded like KISS-WITH BIGGER HOOKS ! ! !
HOOKS ! ! ! HOOKS ! DO YOU HEAR ME, GUYS?
Hooks are what KISS have always been about. Heavy, guitar-oriented bombast with catchy sing-along hooks-even heavier songs like GOD OF THUNDER had an accessible quality to it.
On REVENGE, they moved in a heavier direction, but that was OK because they kept the HOOKS and EVERYTHING WE KNOW AND LOVE AS KISS !
On this album, they went heavier yet but they sacrificed the hooks and the melody they have always been good at. They jumped the bandwagon and started sounding like all this negative sounding 90s crap, granted it's better than Soundgarden or Alice in Chains, but KISS is a trend-setter and was around before any of those bands, and if they wanna still be around after, they better go back to being themselves. There's nothing more transparent than a band trying to become something they're not.
