This is by no means a track by track review. I tend to feel that the impression left by an entire album is much more important than any single track. This album nearly put me in the grave......
I am a huge fan of Kiss, and a big fan of todays rock scene. With this album Kiss have not only match the shear power and aggression of today's bands but left them in their wake. Songs like HATE, IN MY HEAD are just cruel, and CHILDHOODS END makes me experience feelings I have never received from a Kiss album before.
The sound of the album is difficult to describe. Try to imagine Soundgarden (RIP), Alice In Chains and early Stone Temple Pilots getting real drunk having fun playing covers of Kiss classics such as 100,000 YEARS or GOD OF THUNDER but in their own bone-crunching style. Now forget I mentioned those bands and those songs and carry that feeling with you. That is the only way I can descibe it.
I love this album (possible more than my girlfriend....) and everyone who has heard it agrees with me. My bands drummer (also a KISS fan) was literally in shock for 10 minutes when I played him HATE, and that was a realAudio file. That is how powerful this album is. That is how good KISS are. They just keep doing it....
Just a shame there won't be a tour for this album though. It deserves one.
