Having been a diehard KISS fan since the release of Destroyer, I would like to say I am DEEPLY disappointed due to this final release of the lineup which included Singer and Kulick. Don't get wrong...this LP is nothing short of spectacular. My disappointment is a result of the original lineup getting back together. Had KISS spewed this sort of music on their CDs of the 80's and early to mid 90's there would be no reason for a reunion with Peter Criss and Ace Frehley.
Simply put, Carnival of Souls is perhaps the greatest CD any version of KISS has ever done. Dark and heavy, this baby packs a fresh punch not seen since Alive. There are no false songs here...just ballsy music and real emotion...you'll find no silly ass pop songs on COS.
Stanley and Simmons have never sounded better...particularly Stanley on Rain and Simmons on Hate. Eric Singer has put some special work into his drums on this one, and Kulick's licks are wild, smoking, and provactive.
A lot of fans and media critics have labeled this album as a departure, but I see it as a return to music that means a damn to the band. A welcome change after the past decade and a half.
Don't misunderstand me. The original KISS was great and will be great now. But honestly, there's no way they'll ever match the emotional power offered in Carnival of Souls.
The best damn album KISS has ever done.
Yes, I did. It's a shame the final album with Singer
