"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

E! Online Psycho Circus Review

Psycho Circus
Mercury Records

KISS was always more of a marketing concern than a musical force, and rabid '70s nostalgia of late has enabled the original monsters of rock to cash in big time all over again. Predictably, this reunion album bristles with lots of heavy-metal bells and whistles but still doesn't leave much of an impression. Simmons, Stanley, Frehley and Criss sound beefier than before, but their songwriting is as wimpy as ever. From the raw and empty bombast of the title track to drippy power ballads like "I Finally Found My Way," this circus plays like a rock 'n' roll parody. Sadly, an unintentional one. We're tempted to rate this "D-Minus, Rock City," but lifers in the KISS Army will still get a kick out of it.
