"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Lars Herngren

Iīve been listening to "Psycho circus" 24 hours a day for about a week now and what can I say!! In my opinion itīs absolutely the best Kiss album since "Creatures". Iīs not the old Kiss (donīt expect that!!) but it has Kiss written all over it. Though i think they have worked with a lot of people writing the songs. Ace is really kicking ass on this album, but the most pleasant surprise is that Paul is brilliant. Very cool songs and very strong vocals from this man!!! Gene is a little darker except on "We are one" which is a catchy pop tune in my ears. Hereīs a short review.

Psycho circus: I canīt believe it. This is a masterpiece and definitely a great show-opener. The bridge and the solo is almost like "Detroit rock city". A great rocker and the vocals by Paul is great. Aceīs solo really kicks ass. This is the song I loved the first time i listened to it! Grade: A+

Within: Gene song that really reminds me of COS(which i like). The verses are dark and slow but the chorus is a winner. You canīt hear much of Ace and Peter in this one, are they really playing? Anyway, this is one of the coolest songs on the album. Grade: A

I pledge allegiance: This is a catchy rocker from Paul. Great vocals again from Paul. The solo and the guitar behind it reminds me a little of ZZ Top actually. Aceīs solo is great though!!! Could this be the second single? Grade:A-

Into the void: Is this Ace? You bet it is!! This song is a straight Ace song. Strong Guitars and a thunderous solo. The verses arenīt that good, but the chorus is a real asskicker. Surprisingly good vocals from Ace. Grade:B

We are one:The demon shows his soft side. This is a cool song that reminds me of some Beatles songs. Catchy chorus! I think this one will grow. Grade:B

You Wanted the best: This one will probably be a song like R n R all nite or Shout it out loud. This is a statement from Kiss! Really cool verses and the chorus reminds me a little bit of "Fits like a glove" (Surprised?). Peter is singing his heart out in this one.Aceīs solo,as always, is really good. Grade:B+

Raise your glasses: Another song by Paul. The chorus reminds me of something that comes from the 80īs, and I must say that I donīt fancy that period to much. The verses are really cool though with cool guitars waiting around the corner!! Watch out! Grade:B-

I finally found my way: Not much to say about this one. Peter sings his heart out again but I never liked soft ballads, and I donīt prefer ballads on a Kiss albums. But as I said Peter is singing his heart out. Grade:C

Dreamin: I really like this song. Sounds like something out of Killers or Unmasked but not that wimpy. The chorus sticks to your brain for a long time. Grade:A

Journey of 1000 years: Another dark song from Gene. Very cool with bells and acoustic guitars. Reminds me a little of the ending of "Creatures"(and we all know that one, donīt we). This song will grow and itīs full of potential. Grade:A

Overall this album is splendid and I think Kiss fans all over the world will be pleased with this one. I know that everybody expects the old Kiss, but they will be surprised. The old Kiss is long gone and we are going in to a new era.
