"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Jerry Songy

Hello, my name is Jerry and I have been a KISS fan since 1980. I have never seen the original band until July 9th, 1996 in the Superdome for the Reunion tour. For 17 years I wished for a reunion, I got it! I then wished for a new record with Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter, I got it! My third wish is that they never break up! Still pending! First off, let me thank KISS for one of the best times of my life. The only thing better was my marriage and the births of my two children. I just got a copy of Psycho Circus and I must have listened to it 10 times already. From start to finished I was so excited to have the privilege to be able to listen to a KISS CD before the release.

Here is my review song by song!

Psycho Circus - What a opener! Welcome to the show! This song capture the electricity that is felt at a KISS show. Peter Criss's steady drumming is a stand out and the vocals are strong! Ace doesn't show off his guitar work in this one, but a cruncher to say the least. 4 out of 4 Stars!

Within' - Gene in a rip roaring song that has a slight hint of Carnival Of Souls but good! A very good vocal and feel to this song. Bruce Fairbain did a great job with this one. Also, like all the other songs, it seems to be about the reunion and the regained success in the 90's. "I want to be where I been". 4 out of 4 Stars!

State Of Rock And Roll - A scorcher from Paul! A celebration of how big KISS is! This let's me believe that KISS is going to be here for a while longer. For me, I tend to listen to the message behind the song than a rumor on the net or magazine. "I know that Heaven's gonna wait!". 4 out 4 Stars!

Into The Void - The first Ace song and it fits him fine! Very strong guitar work with a lot of Ace's signature licks on it! Ace goes wild with this one. Also, to me, it hints to the whole reunion thing. From a club act to a stadium power house! I would feel like being sucked in a black hole as well! 3 out of 4 Stars!

We Are One - One of the few Gene songs that can become a hit! Gene has grown up since "Burn Bitch Burn". Very well written song, has a lot of emotion to it. Very few KISS songs that has a personal meaning to it. Everyone goes through trouble, but we are the same. Go to a KISS concert and forget for a while. 4 out of 4 Stars!

You Wanted The Best - The weakest song on here. Seems liked the included this one because the really wanted this song on there. A good message, but really doesn't fit with rest of the album. 2 out of 4 Stars!

Raise Your Glasses - This is OUR song! This, to me, replaces "Rock And Roll All Nite" as the new anthem for us KISS fans! If I had one thing to say to Paul and KISS, I would say We're raising our glasses! It has never been so great than to tell people I AM A KISS FAN! I was never ashamed to say I was anyway! 4 out of 4 Stars! Plus a bonus Star!

Finally Found My Way Back - The first Peter song! It had to be a slow one! Very well sung and the music is nice to listen too. The song was written by Paul, but I think it would have been better if Peter wrote it. But it seems to be another reunion message about Peter's struggle to get back where he once was. The hottest and best drummer in the world in KISS! He is back! 4 out of 4 Stars!

Dreamin - This one sounds like Alice Cooper's "Eighteen". A strong song with a lot of feel to it! Peter sounds good on this one. M favorite line is on this song. "There is a thin line between the truth and how we want it to be". That is a line we all can learn from. Kind of like the controversy on who is really playing on this album. Somebody feels that Peter does not play on this record and he is making it out to be the truth. Everyone else is making it what they want it to be! GET OFF IT! PETER IS PLAYING DRUMS HERE! 4 out of 4 Stars!

Journey Of A 1,000 Years - The song is a builder! As the song progresses it gets better. Gene's singing is smooth. Not a radio hit, but would love to hear it live! Nice sound and feel to it. 4 out of 4 Stars!

Well that is it! My review! This is our record, this is what we asked for! All I can say is, thanks guys! I expected the best, and I got it!
