"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Ken Keenan

I would like to say that I have been a krazy KISS fan since I picked up AliveII in the 70's. I have picked up all of their albums on the day that they were released. The new one will not be an exception. As for all the so called fans out there expecting Destroyer or any 70's KISS, you're dreamin' (no pun intended Paul). This is 1998 people, wake up! I myself do not want a carbon copy of their older stuff, I want new music that does not sound dated. I just want KISS 1998.

Here is my review of the new KISS Psycho Circus album.

Psycho Circus
What a great way to start. This song sent chills down my spine the first time I heard it. KISS is back. Great sounding guitars. Good solo that could have been a bit longer. I love this song. Good job Paul!
4 1/2 stars out of 5.

Within
I like the backwards guitar at the beginning. Heavy duty riffs, similar to COS. The chorus grows on you the more you listen to it. I like the special guitar effect they used in this one. I also like the chorus being sung over the verses.
4 stars out of 5.

I Pledge Allegiance
The chorus sounds a little like Uh All Nite (just a little)! Otherwise a solid rock song from Paul. Nothing totally special here but it still sounds good.
3 1/2 stars out of 5.

Into the Void
Ace is back and he told you so! Great rocker from Ace. This is what I expect from Ace, great guitar work and the solo is awesome. Catchy chorus.
5 stars out of 5.

We Are One
Wow! My foot was tapping one right from the start. Would have fit onto his solo album nicely. Jangle sounding guitars on the verses. Possible single for AOR. Gene does not need to have a rough sounding voice for the song to be good.
4 1/2 out of 5.

You Wanted the Best
Some people do not like this one, but if you look past the lyrics and just listen to the music on this rocker it'll knock you on you ass. Works for me!
4 stars out of 5.

Raise Your Glasses
Fantastic, catchy, loud, the whole package. A definite sing along. I don't agree with the people who say that the chorus sucks. I think it's great. This could be a song for a soda commercial. Are you listening Coca-Cola! 5 stars out of 5.

I Finally Found My Way.
Uh oh! I did figure Peter would have a ballad and this one does not work for me. It does start to sound better the more you listen to it, but not enough.
3 stars out of 5.

Dreamin'
Nice and heavy! Could have fit into the 1983 heavy metal time period. This one gets a lot better with each listen. Good bridge and I like the guitar sound as a whole.
4 stars out of 5.

Journey of 1000 Years
Totally cool! Definite Beatles influence. Strumming at beginning sounds like A Day in the Life. Kind of a cross between that and Tomorrow Never Knows also from the Beatles. This song keeps building the further you get into it. Great chorus. I wish he would have written one more verse and this song would have been a 6 out of 5. Great singing from Gene.
5 stars out of 5.

Final score - 42.5 stars out of 50. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
