"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Carmine Ciserano

I have just reveiwed the long anticipated album by kiss. First of all i love kiss and they have been a major part of my life. Like someone cheering for their favorite baseball team i have been there for all members of this team for over twenty years now.

Besides Psyco Circus being a long awaited studio album from Kiss. It also is a follow up album to one of the most stongest kiss albums to date and that beig Carnival of Souls. Just for the record, I have no idea how Kiss fans could not sink their teeth into that last album which in my eyes had TRUE BALLS!!!

So without further introduction i will give you my TRUE feelings about the new Kiss effort.

Psycho Circus title track is a strong opener. Paul sounds great and after a few listens to this song i must say its one of the best tracks on this record. Listen closley to the harmonies of the guitars.

2. Within- This is one of those songs you hear for the first time and say " oh ya " . Gene has really out done himself on this one and it has to be one of the few songs on the album that has true balls. LOVE IT!!!

3. I Pledge Allegiance to the state of R & R- I dont know its not thats it bad its just to pridictable and really is " cliche " Kiss. Paul sounds good but i just think this was thrown into this aldum just bacause they have' nt had a track with Rock & Roll in it since God Gave R&R to you. Not Bad but just a little to safe.

4. Into the void - Ace is finally back (on Pcycho Circus ) One of my biggest problems with this record is where the F#@k is Ace on this album. That is a question you would never have to ask on any other albums with Ace. Dont get me wrong I am not looking for this to be Kiss 76 all over again but christ o mighty what were they thinking when they were recording this album. Oh ya back to the song. Good riff. Its nice to hear Ace back on a Kiss album. (well almost)

5. We are one - Gene really did his homework on this album. Another strong track by Gene. Great acoustic stuff but not to sappy. This is one you would expect to hear on a solo effort. I am glad this is the next single because it is one of the few tracks i think really shows some fine song writing on this album. Thumbs UP!!!

6. You wanted the Best - Better than i thought it would be. The only song on the album where you get to hear Ace. It is also the only song where it sounds loose and not so by the book sounding. I like that all members sing. This song wins the award for most rock & rollish on the album.

7. Raise yor Glasses - Unlike Gene, Paul did not do his homework. Another crowd pleaser by Paul. Its not horrible. But it has no BALLS!!!

8. I finally found my way - Well its nice to see Peter again on a Kiss album.(almost) Another complaint with this record. The one song besides " You wanted the Best " sung by Peter and it has to be a ballad written by Paul. Its no big deal Paul wrote it but its the only song Peter is featured and its not his song. In fact their is no songs written by Peter. All in All its ok but once again to predictable. The best ballad done by Peter is " Beth " so stop trying to make a "Beth II"

9. Dreamin - One of the better tracks by Paul but it lacks once again BALLS, unlike his contribution to COS. One thing I must say is that Pauls voice has really stood with the test of time. Which is the only thing that holds his songs together on this album.

10. Journey of 1,000 years - This is the only Gene song I am not that thrilled with on this record. It had a lot of potential to be a classic Gene song but it lacks something. It starts off great but dies out mid way through the track. I do like the strings and piano used but it has no real depth to it.

Well Thats it. I have to say coming from this Kiss fan this album is very disappointing due to it being the first Kiss album in 18yrs to feature all origanal members. And thats what makes this album even more disappointing because you never really hear Ace and Peters contribution is next to none. Lets hope they do another record and pray the next one will have the BALLS this album lacks.
