"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Shandi1234@aol.com

Let me begin by stating a few facts that might be relevant about this review. First, I heard PC on the album review the other night so I did not get to hear 2 of the songs. Second, I don't play guitar or any other instrument. Therefore, all I know is what I like and don't like. I don't break it down, I just simply state it. Third, I base my Kiss reviews on 3 to 4 factors 1) Does it make you want to scream and shout from the top of your lungs - " I LOVE KISS" , 2) When I exercise, does the beat make me go faster than the machine can go, and last but most important (How can I say this delicately, Does it make you want to F---- !!! Opps #4 does it make you feel good (ie when you're down will it bring you back to firmer ground.)

That said, does this album meet the above criteria YES!!!!!! 1) I've already screamed and shouted down the highway listening to the songs 2) I can't make my body exercise this hard, man it rocks 3) I haven't had the chance to be with man since hearing the cd but it certainly has got me wanting to 4) I was very depressed on the above mentioned road trip to start with ---very depressed. Within no less than 15 min I was screaming and shouting and feeling so good, I wanted to do #3.

Here we go song by song

Psycho Circus: Great song, good beat - I go to bed with Paul singing in my head. This will be a great opening song. I can just imagine the concert to come and it makes me want to scream and shout.

YWTB: It took a time or two of listening but I love it. I like the trading off of the lines. There is a really catchy beat to it. Plus , as a bonus the ending has them horsing around--NO MORE WARS--Ha Ha. I really like it , simple yet makes you move.

Into the Void: Man, I can't say enough about this one. Very solo Ace type material-rocking down the highway style beat. Ace is the man. I like the verse and guitar bits in here. Will be a great song for Ace on the tour.

I Pledge Alligance: Hands down, the first song to grab me on this cd. Took a listen or 2 to get the words down but Paul sings his a** off on this one. Hands down the PC award goes to Paul for his ability to make it great.

Within: Wellllllllll.........Very COSish. Gene hadn't picked up Paul's vibes on this one. Not a rocker. Maybe it'll grow on me. Time will tell.

I Finally Found My Way: It's alright. Not Forever or even Beth. I'm really not sure on it yet. I like the lyrics. Very orchestrated. I'm sure it'll grow on me with a few more listens and hearing it on cd not the radio.

Raise Your Glasses: Again, what a beat. Paul was on a groove. Seems a bit like patting yourself on the back but..... if I had been Paul after the reunion I'd probably feel the same. Great beat.

Journey of 1,000 years: How this one got in my head I don't know but it's in there. I'm shocked. Not classic Kiss. Doesn't meet the criteria of above but I think with some candles #3 is a real possibability. I feel like Gene is speaking to me. Letting you know something before anyone else knows. Different, but something about it makes it good. I can't say exactly why but I like it.

Well, this is not 70's Kiss but even they'll tell you, they'd be imbeciles to write and play the same. The guys have changed. Who hasn't. Heck, Gene and Paul have young impressionable kids. Maybe the lyrics aren't like Revenge because Nicholas is starting to notice things and Evan well.....haven't we all held our tongue in front of little ones? I'm probably wrong but it's a thought that might be truer than some will admit.

This is not Love Gun, Destroyer, or RNR but it is Kiss. Hands down it is Kiss. Maybe lacking Ace in a few spots as well as Peter (Paul even said he did the lead in PC,& I Pledge see Guitar World) but I like it. There isn't an album that exists that one or two songs don't grab you so it's natural to not like 1 or 2. I believe with all my heart that this is a great cd that will have some classic Kiss songs to add to our list of favorites. Show the guys what they mean to us. Buy those tickets and cd's so they'll keep at it till all of us are using walkers and hearing aids from listening to Kiss too loud.

Final analysis 4 out of 5.
