"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Dan Davis

Let me start by saying I do not have any credentials to judge this album on technical merit. I simply know what type(s) of music I enjoy and what gets my blood pumping.

I grew up listening to KISS and found almost every album to be positive and uplifting. (A huge difference from todays "Life sucks. I think I'll kill myself " music (and calling it music is a stretch))

Psycho Circus really got my blood pumping! This is what rock and roll is all about. Having fun! Maybe some of the thirty-something KISS "fans" forget what it is like to be a teenager. I haven't.

Give me all the rock anthems and ballads you can write. KISS have brought back a positive influence to rock which has been missing for over a decade.

Psycho Circus: Great song! Not one I can sing in the shower but very cool. I love the instrumental section in the middle of the song. <---See, not technical.

Within: Cool back masking at the beginning. I like the way this song sort of flooowwws. It just seems very smooth, mellow.

I Pledge Allegiance to the State of R n R: This song reminds me of when I was a teen and rock and roll was the salt of the earth. The chorus is excellent.

Into the Void: It is great to hear Ace playing and singing in KISS again. His songs always seem to rock.

We Are One: To me this is a great ballad from Gene. It shows what a great vocalist he is. Very positive, feel good song.

You Wanted the Best...: And I got the best! The vocal trade off is very cool. It shows the unity of the band. Definitely written for the fans. Thanks guys!

Raise Your Glasses: Probably my favorite on the album. I can picture myself at the concert raising my arm in the air as the chorus is sung. Great anthem. Another song with positive lyrics. Shower song.

I Finally Found My Way: This song was written by Paul for Peter and I think that was cool. It is definitely about Peter's trials and tribulations and how he got his life back on track. Alot of people say this is an attempt to remake ''Beth" but these people obviously know nothing about Peter Criss or KISS. These are the songs he does best. Listen to his solo album. If you think his solo stunk then you must limit your musical interest to the rock genre. Get a clue people.

Dreamin': This song is really cool. The way it sounds I can picture myself in a dream sequence where everything is in slow motion. Eerie!!

Journey of 1,000 Years: Why does everyone think this song is such a stretch? It sounds like Gene's solo material to me.

There isn't a song on this album that I don't like. I also didn't spend my time trying to compare it to other albums or songs. It's time for KISS fans to get over the "It doesn't sound like classic KISS" whining. If you want Destroyer, listen to Destroyer. Alot of KISS fans missed out on good music from KISS during the '80's because the original lineup was gone. My mom had a saying for that, "Cutting off your nose to spite your face."

These are ten great songs from KISS. Since I listen to everything from Classical music to Jazz to Country music it is easy for me to enjoy every song individually. The songs on this album vary in style and mood and the album as a whole may not have a "theme" but who cares.

This is a kick ass album and I think the teens of this generation will finally get to see what real rock and roll is supposed to be. After all, rock and roll is really for kids, right?
