"Psycho Circus" Album Reviews

From: Russ D'Angelo

It's a dream come true, the original (and only) KISS lineup back together. The new album is fresh and ALIVE!!! Here's my review of each song:

Phycho Circus- "Welcome to the show"!!!! Great guitar licks, really stands out in the tradition of "Detroit Rock City" and "Love Gun". Paul Stanley really belts out his vocal chords on this one.I love Gene's input toward the end when he get's into his demon voice.

Within- It's Gene in a sort of punk rock voice but his vocals are great. Guitars are catchy. I really don't understand why this song seems to be picked on so much and criticized. I also don't know why so many people say the demon can no longer growl like he use to due to age. That's a bunch of bull !!!!!

I pledge Allegence to the State of Rock and Roll- Another fantastic song using the vocal chords of Paul Stanley. I have had this song in my head all day. It's very strong and it makes a statement. KISS loves rock and roll, not country, punk, or alternative crap from the 90's.

Into the Void- It is fantastic to see Ace back in KISS the way it's suppose to be. Sounds alot like Shock Me, fab guitar licks. The Space Ace is ready to do another solo for the tour and I'm sure he will use this song to break into it. I can't wait to see what he comes up with.

We Are One- Some say Gene in his solo album voice but I say he is great on this one. It shows those critics that he has a wide vocal range. He can sing anything. I love the mix of acoustic and electric guitars. Lyrics flow well and keep you going.

You wanted the best---- I sure got it. The original members should sing together on at least one song. I like the way they did this. No hesitations, everyones vocal part blends in smooth. I don't think this song is corny, it's something the band believes in.

Raise Your Glasses- Another song that keeps popping into my head. Catchy phrases and it's another one of those anthemic songs that KISS is known for. It's another way of saying "Rock and Roll all night, party every day.

I finally found my way--- I have always said that Peter should sing more songs in KISS because his voice is great. This song is no exception. I don't agree with some of the reviews that say this song doesn't sound like Beth. It has every element that Beth had. Even classical music in the background. Both Beth and "Finally...... could be considered love songs by Peter. Thanks for being back Peter, Eric Carr can't hold a candle to you.

Dreamin- Pauls vocal style is amazing. I wonder how he doesn't get a sore throat my the end of the night. I like this power balid but a bit upset that it was co-written by Bruce Kulic. This album is suppose to be about the four original members back together and past KISS members should have nothing to do with it. I would have much rather heard a song co-written by Ace or Peter.

Journey of 1000 Years-- Many say this sounds like something from the "Elder". Well, maybe a little bit but so what. The Elder was not that bad. (After all, Ace was on it) It's cool to have a song that's different to end the album and I feel this song is kinda relaxing. It sounds like it could be the soundtrack for a science fiction movie.

So, there you have it, my review. Overall, the album get's an "A". Can't wait for the tour where KISS will show these young punks how to rock.
