Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Pete

Just got back from the 1st Boston show, and let me say that anything you've heard about this show being Reunon Tour Part II, forget about it. This show had a lot of new, very cool stuff to it.

The night started with Econoline Crush who did a set that seemed like about 10 minutes, and was utterly forgettable.

The Kiss curtain came down at about 8:45 (there was no "Won't Get Gooled Again" this time, it just came down during Marylin Manson). The curtain is the Psycho Circus curtain. The show started at 9:00 with Psycho Circus as expected. Shout It Out Loud was still second. The only songs from PC were the same from L.A. (PC, Within, and Into The Void). There was no She or Nothin' to Lose.

The biggest and best suprise: Makin' Love!

The stage looks better than last year too. It's got two KISS signs on either side and a nice big screen with some great effects to it. Theres a metallic theme to the stage and there are three big cross shaped lighting rigs which occasionally come down during the show.

O.K. Here are the higlights:

Makin' Love!

Peter's Drum solo. I used to think this was the low point of the show. But now the drum riser looks like it really is levitating in the air, and it is great. It goes up, and then it goes out! A few rows into the audience. It has flashing lights on the bottom of it, and big jets which spew out smoke in the opposite direction of which the drum riser moves. It was awesome.

The 3-D effects are very cool, but during Ace's solo they are incredible. It's like entering "Ace's World". It's like an extended version of the Ace part of the Psycho Circus video.

In general, the 3-D effects are pretty neat. Much better than in the video. I was sitting in the 6th row, so the drum set kind of got in the way of the screen, and it made it hard to focus on the 3D, but it was still neat.

They did the standard trick during Ace's Solo where it looks like something went wrong and was hit by his rocket. But this time instead of a exploding light, they have a falling silver foil thing.

There are lots of fireworks, and less flames than before.

Ace has a new guitar with a new trick! It looks similar to the New York Groove guitar, but it's got circle lights that light up around the guitar rather than the standard horizontal bars. During Rock and Roll All Nite (I think), during his solo, the guitar shoots sparks out in a circle with a rotating red beam in the center. Sort of hard to describe. Imaging a huge sparkler with a red tip that is being twirled around. Make sense?

Gene definitely licks Ace's neck during Detroit Rock City.

There's some nice big colored confetti during RARAN.

There were three women in the front row (2 were made up as Paul and Peter). They looked like centerfolds and had there shirts off for most of the show. The KISS photographer took a lot of shots of them and they went right back stage after the show. My theory on this? I think they need more photos for KISSTORY II, and I'm going to be looking for these three women in there. Just a thought.

Before Makin' Love Paul said, "This one's from Love Gun, at least I think it's from Love Gun? Ace, which album is this one from?" Ace says, "I don't know." Do you think they do this on purpose, or do they honestly just not know? Couldn't they do just a little bit of research first?

There were a few glitches: The fireworks on the right side of the stage didn't work sometimes. Before the second encore, they flahed the "Put on your KISS 3-D glasses sign", and then showed a blank screen for 5 minutes before they came on.

Paul also motioned to Peter to speed up DRC.

So the bottom line is, it's not just like the Reunion Tour, and it's a good show. Go see it.
