Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Jeff Guerra

Kiss played a fanatstic show with the opening of there tour in Boston last night( the 12th) i was not very excited of the prospect of seeing another slow plodding show like the reunion tour and was i ever surprised to thoroughly enjoy this show much more than the reunion.

Let me say right off the bat that peter criss righted any wrongs from the previous tour by playing like the ferocious bastard we have come to know and love. He played so well, that at first i didn't think it was him. his beats were strong and his tempo was very up and constant. His drum solo( though not spectacular) was not embarrasing and the new riser was great. the crew lowered chains which connected to the four corners of his riser adn it lifted him up, out and above the stage then lowered him down to about 3 feet off the stage where gene, ace and paul usually are. There were strobes and smoke and it went off well. beth was even better. Plus he sang black diamond right after and it sounded really good.

paul was spectacular. he was smiling and you could just see that he was so happy to be on tour. wiggling his butt every chance he got and he ripped off his top after only 2 songs to show the world how great of shape he was in. His voice sounded strong andhis flying bit into center arena during Love Gun was a real crowd pleaser.

Gene's voice sounded great, he did not move much but who gives a shit. "Within" sounded awesome as they sounded really tight. gene almost got decapitated while he was being flown up during God Of Thunder. Looks to me like they brought him up too fast and at the same time they were bringing him towardsthe mini-stage. His bass slammed against the rigging and he crawled his way onto the staging as compared to his just stepping out on to it. he looked so pissed.

Ace did not do his smoking guitar during Shock Me but did it during In to the void. It was weird and not done to well. They played "into the void" and then just stopped playing, then he went into his solo. there was no continuity. he had a new light up guitar he brought out during RnRaN which had a kind of firecracker pinwheell thing on the neck that spun and sparked when he flicked the switch. That wa OK. Also, Ace loked pretty chubby. i was surprised at that. guess he di not do too much trainign during the off season.

The 3D was NO big deal. It worked ok but was a pain in the ass. On, off,on off. I just left them off. The stuff was from the Psycho Circus Video anyway, with some new effect at the end of the show with them waving goodbye and stuff.

All in all i was very pleased. there is much more to tell but not much time to tell it so if anyone wants more info, please feel free to e mail me at jeffguerra@juno.com
