Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: ACGAINS@aol.com

Kiss is back and better than ever. I won't go into every song because that's been done nicely by some of my fellow fans, but I must say that the Psycho Circus tour is already shaping up to be bigger and better than the reunion tour. "Psycho Circus" is a great opener in the tradition of "Detroit Rock City" and sounded great live--better than it did at Dodger Stadium. I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of "Makin' Love" to the set list because I always thought this song rocked as hard as any they've ever done. As for the new songs, "Within" translated better live than on album but I'd dump this tune in favor of either "You Wanted the Best" or "I Pledge Allegiance" from "Psycho Circus." I imagine they might do that as the tour progresses but those two songs are natural picks for a concert setting.

The special effects on this tour are fantastic: more pyro, the drum riser and accompanying solo by Peter Criss are awesome, and let's not forget the 3-D. I was skeptical going in but they sold me with some really fun effects, especially Ace's guitar stretching out towards the crowd. Gene's flight to the rafters during "God of Thunder" is always a highlight, and I like the way the platform is set up out over the audience this time. Of course, Paul flying across the arena to set up shop in front of the sound board during "Love Gun" was the best part of the show. Putting him out among the people is where he was meant to be.

Aside from a couple of opening nights glitches, like Gene blowing the lead in "Cold Gin" or a few flashpots failing to go off, the show more than paid for itself. I can't wait to check them out when they come to Providence.
