Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Steven Daraskavich

Well, after the show last night, Boston Ma 11/12/98, I needed to take a step back and reflect. I was, as well as others I spoke with after the show, disappointed with the show. I really don't know what to say except I hope it's only 1st night gitters. The band seemed flat. I am making the comparison between this tour and the shows from the reunion tour, not to mention the 80's tours which were unique unto themselves and the Dynasty tour. I guess I should start at the beginning of the show, IT WAS NOT LOUD WHAT SO EVER! They only had one row of amps on stage one level high. I have never been to a KISS show that was not loud to include the Revenge tour. The stage itself was bare (a lot of wasted space). The song list was pretty close to the Dodger Stadium show minus- She, Nothin' to lose. There was very little, and I really mean very little fire during the show, none during Firehouse save Gean's breathing it, and of what they did have didn't go off half the time, meaning that only the right side of the stage went off while the left side did not. The 3-D works, though it takes away from the band. I finally quit using the glasses, which didn't even have KISS anywhere on them a big BOOOOOOO. Lights. Very cool but limited. The screens were large and clear. I can't say much on the fireworks they were kind of cool but I would have rather more fire and bigger explosions then the number of green sparkly things. The band, they sounded great, nice and clean but very quite. Ace sounded better then any other time I've seen him as well Peter still sounded great. Gean has that raspieness back in his voice, I hope it's the costume that did it and Paul will always sound great! The music sounded great you could hear each member and they played their parts well. The music was very good but NOT LOUD ENOUGH! I hate to say it, but this was very a lackluster show that didn't satisfy. I truly hope this was only something that happened this night. If anyone out there can get a message to the band please tell them to turn it up! Do what ever they need to to get the stacks of amps back on the stage. If they must, lose two of the screens, one of the KISS signs and get more amps. Blow more stuff up, like the crowd, and for the love of God, FIRE a lot more FIRE! I first saw KISS on the Dynasty tour, I hope they don't forget their roots, which was loud, theatrics.... Lose the crap. Again, this is my review and I get the feeling from others that went that they feel the same way. We are still wondering what happened. I hope it was a mechanical thing at the Fleet center, or a logistic gone bad. I hope that no one else for the rest of this tour feels this way after a show, I wish I didn't but I've seen too many show to know what makes a good show and a great show. KISS is good. On a personal note, a camera man saw my tattoo and asked if he could get some shots of it which was very cool. I can't say I expected that.
