Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

KISS ‹ PSYCHO CIRCUS

DECEMBER 11th, 1998

DAYTON, OHIO AT NUTTER CENTER

If there was a way to describe an awesome show like KISS in last night's show, all I can say is F*CKIN' AWESOME! I truly had a blast. I had good seats too. I was in the 13th row on the floor. Although I was kinda disappointed that they didn't have the circus acts being performed before the concert like in the other concerts I heard about. But in all it was a truly awesome show.

The opening act Econoline Crush was kinda good. The lead guitarist reminded me of the guitarist of Cheap Trick. They did few songs and left. I was getting pumped up to see my favorite band in the entire milky way to rock Dayton all night!

At 9:00 p.m. the amps started to hum, as I see a shadow of the Demon walking onto the stage thru the show curtain which was a replica of the Psycho Circus CD cover. Then I saw the Starchild walking onto the stage then Space Ace, I didn't see the Cat man walked up to his drum kit, must have missed him. Then as the curtain fell, fireballs blasted as KISS opened up with "Psycho Circus", at first I thought Paul was lip syncing it because his lips weren't in sync with the voice I was hearing but he proved me wrong with the rest of the night. Within few minutes, Ladies was throwing their panties on the stage.

Gene was impressive as ever, the way he looks on stage was truly demonic. The way he walks and the ways he express himself was quite mind blowing. He loved the crowd reactions, to me he had a great time up there. The most exciting part in watching Gene was during his bass solo, he stood in a cloud of fog with this eerie red lighting shining back of him and the way he scanned the crowd with his demonic expression on his face was making my spine all tingling and my mind was blown away. His Axe bass shook my wheelchair as he worked up the crowd before he started to spit up the "blood". The way he spit the blood was cool, his head was back and he let the blood flow out his both corners of his mouth. Then he did few more bass riffs after he worked up the crowd and he suddenly took off "flying" to a high rise and he worked up the crowd again and pointing himself and the crowd chanted "GENE! GENE! GENE!" after few moments of him enjoying the crowd chanting, he opened a riff to "God of Thunder" he did the first half of the song up on the high rise. At Aces solo of the song, Gene "flew" down and did the rest of the song with this cool demon voice effect.

Ace was exciting to watch too. It was like watching the old KISS footage in my KISS tape collection. Ace is the greatest in my opinion. He did "Shock me", his new song "Into the Void". I think there was a problem when they were playing "Into the Void" because I couldn't hear the chorus very well. Ace's solo act was very awesome. He did the smoking and flying guitar bit AND the rocket launching guitar bit which he "destroyed" two lighting sets. During one song which I forget, Ace had a spinning sparkle wheel on his guitar and as he was doing the solo, it looked very impressive.

Paul was, well Paul that we all know and love. He was full of energy and very active in moving around. After few minutes at the beginning of the show, he said after he got few panties from few ladies from the crowd he said "I think someone will be naked at this show." Paul's voice was good as ever. I liked it when Paul was rappin' bout how much he was thankful to the fans that they made his dream come true of being a rock star and said he wanted to come down there to the fans. He then added he thought the fans wouldn't want him down there so he got noise measurement devices up on the big screen and the crowd roared and Paul was grinning to ear to ear, he flew up over the crowd, and landed to a mini stage and performed "Love Gun" after the song he flew back throwing kisses to the crowd. Paul's solo act was good, he worked the crowd very well as he did some awesome riffs on his broken glass Les Paul guitar.

Now, this is my first show of seeing Peter behind the kit in a live concert and I was impressed. He did "Black Diamond" which it was my one of my favorite songs and he sounded good. Peter did Beth which surprised me because of the laser blinding. He did his rose tossing thing and saw a person in an Elvis costume and Peter said "I thought you were dead.". Peter's drum solo was AWESOME! His kit rose up like a rocket and the solo was very good, he handled the crowd nicely and you can tell Peter likes the feedback from the crowd because his solo was very energy filled.

They played some classics like "Shout it aloud", "Rock n roll all nite" and three songs from Psycho Circus "Psycho Circus", "Into the Void" and "Within". I wanted to hear songs from "Creatures of the Night" and from their earlier stuff like "Hotter than Hell" and so on. But the concert was awesome. The 3D stuff was ok, not too impressive but they had balls to do a 3D concert and that's why I love KISS, THEY GOT BALLS!

Don't miss this concert or you'll be kicking yourself silly. Oh yeah to the she-demon I saw after the show, you looked mighty fine in your gene make-up and costume! I was the one in the wheelchair wearing a KISS hat :). PARTY ON KISS ARMY!
