Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Kevin Drinan

This, the fourth show I've seen this tour, was probably the most musically sound. Peter was inconsistent all last tour, so the shows were touch-and-go. That's a thing of the past, and so far, the band sounds so much better on this tour. At the Hartford Civic Center on Wednesday night, there was no stopping them.

Unfortunately, "Makin' Love" has been dropped, so aside from the Psycho Circus songs, they didn't play anything that wasn't done on the last tour. That's such a disappointment, considering how great "Nothin' To Lose" and "She" sounded at Dodger Stadium. In the Goldmine interviews they also mention stuff like "Larger Than Life" and "Flaming Youth" having been fully rehearsed for the tour. Why aren't they playing ANY of these???!!!

The set list (sans "Makin' Love") was exactly the same as it was the 2nd night in Boston. The pyro was bigger and better, and during "Rock and Roll All Nite", they have added more confetti, and long streamers that shoot upwards from the stage.

The 3-D stuff has been changed. Instead of beginning the show in 3-D, it isn't until the 4th song in that Paul instructs the audience to put the glasses on. Did anyone see Conan and Andy ranking on the 3-D effects the other night on TV? They hit the nail on the head....2 hours of Paul Stanley pointing at you. The 3-D idea was a dud. Let's face it....they should abandon it altogether. (On the plus side, they finally have the "official" Kiss 3-D glasses, which weren't ready last time I saw them.)

Gene flubbed the lyrics to "Within" pretty badly. For a guy who has such a great memory, he sure messes up lyrics a lot. Otherwise, that song was great. All of the new stuff sounds much smoother.

When Paul flew out to the center of the arena, a good-looking blond girl was invited up on the stage with Paul, and she did some steamy dancing. Paul seemed to enjoy that quite a bit, as did all the guys in the audience.

Anyway, they sounded GREAT. If only they'd play one or two different classic songs this tour, they'd have the perfect show.
