Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: ToddnSuz@aol.com

I had an absolute blast tonight in Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium. KISS, as always, gave us the best. From what I read about the "trial" reunion show in Irvine, this one was nearly perfect! After the Pumpkins left the stage, the "circus act" side show began. It was OK. A little cheesy, in my opinion. The ringmaster kept making Clinton jokes, which I think the fans could care less about.

But once KISS hit the stage, the show really took off. They were surrounded by the red curtain with stars and moons, from the album art, and immediately kicked into high gear with "Psycho Circus," the only song I predicted correctly. The show was really unpredictable, as far as when songs would be played. Everytime I kept making a prediction, I was wrong, and I am very familiar with the set list for the last tour. Since the only reunion show I saw was at the L.A. Forum, I was pleasantly surprised to hear old favorites like "Nothing To Lose," "She," and "I Was Made For Lovin' You." The 3-D effects were excellent. Ace couldn't seem to get his guitar to smoke, and after it finally did, he announced, "I think we had a little trouble with that one because it was too young to smoke." We cracked up!

I was totally happy with the songs from "Psycho Circus" they performed ("PC," "Into The Void," and "Within"), but I was sure they would do "You Wanted The Best," which they did not. I'd be willing to bet they'll add that one, though. Paul did great tonight. No annoying "Here's a song..." intros, and no preachy sermonette before "Cold Gin" (which I thought would have been OK to do, anyway). The band and the fans really seemed to enjoy themselves tonight. The band was really tight, and Peter did not miss a beat! His and Ace's solos were also newly-written, for the most part. I must admit that the drum and guitar solos seemed a little out of place, but again, I'm sure the band wanted a change from the probably still-memorized show last tour.

I did not see a lot of "PC" tour shirts, as they will appear in merch stands across the country. The only shirts I saw were five different designs for the Halloween show, which was cool. Even the program was for this show only.

Bottom line: If you are a true KISS fan and loved what you saw on the last tour, then don't let anyone else discourage you from enjoying this new show. It is completely fresh and entertaining. KISS is back!!!
