Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Keith

Hi! I'm not the oldest KISS fan to have attended the HALLOWEEN show at Dodger Stadium, but I bet I was with her! She was my Mom, clocking in at 74 years old! She, myself, my brother, and a family friend give the KISS concert 4 thumbs wayyyyyyyy up! (However, she circus stuff was a bit tedious...and Mumsy couldn't stand the Smashing Pumpkins!)

My mother pretty much knew all of the old songs because she used to hear me blast them as a kid back in the mid-70s! Back then, she would often interupt my air-guitar fantasies with a whopping "Turn that down!"...but you should have seen her at the show! All generation gap stuff melted away, and here was my Mom rocking out like I used to in my bedroom over 20 years ago!

With every flashpot explosion, she would smile a huge smile and give me the big thumbs up as if to say, "NOW I understand what all that was about in the '70s!"

I'm pretty sure my Mom has the hots for Paul...when he swung out to the center of the stadium for "LOVE GUN" (much closer to where we were sitting), my Mom got all googly-eyed! I don't even wanna know what sort of sordid thoughts were running through her head. She kept asking, "Now how old are they exactly?" She wanted to make sure she wouldn't be robbing the cradle! LOL!

As for the naysayers who said that the new stuff didn't work, bullsh*t! "Within" totally kicked butt! And the crowd around me took total delight in singing "Into the Void" along with Ace! KISS chose the 3 strongest numbers on the album (in my opinion)for the show....and it seems as if they've been playing them for years!

Ace covered quite well when his "smoking guitar" gimmick didn't quite work all that well. Rather than panic a-la Spinal Tap, he simply walked up to the microphone and said, "I guess that guitar is too young to smoke!" This was greeted by a huge roar from the crowd...and added a cozy, intimate, improvisational/relaxed quality to the otherwise tight/well-rehearsed show. Despite the choreographed nature of a KISS show, there was a down-to-earth connection between band and audience!

Well, that's all for now! I hope KISS swings around this area towards the end of the tour so I can see them again! So, on behalf of my dear ol' Mom....74 years old and still rockin....KISS RULED!
