Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

KISS IN NASHVILLE 1/2/99

The DESTROYER on STEROIDS show called PSYCHO CIRCUS hit Nashville on Saturday night to a packed house of 15,000+ The merchandise stands were enough to make the eyes bleed with the rare autographed drum heads, comics, a framed gold PC album cover, etc...., another table signing up the Visa program, another painting your face in KISS makeup if you wanted, & many more standard T shirt/tourbook tables with hats, keychains, a tour edition toy car, & about 10 shirt designs. The backstage area was tense & we had problems so we went to our seats & watched the opening band which had Scotti Hill from Skid Row, the band rocked & wasn't an alternative wimpout (at least). Next the intermission music started with Hole's 'Clebrity Skin', & lastly 'R&R Aint Noise Pollution' then shortly after 9p.m. myself & the other photographers were lead to the front of the stage to enter the pit for photos, the lights went down & the intro blasted out to the roaring crowd. The red/orange Psycho Circus curtain dropped with a pyro blast & KISS had returned; Larger Than Life! Smoke flowing all over the stage. I spent this & Shout It Out Loud getting photos for KISS HELL then went to my seat as the set continued with DEUCE, DR LOVE, DO YOU LOVE ME, COLD GIN, SHOCK ME, LET ME GO ROCK & ROLL, LOVE GUN (with Paul flying), INTO THE VOID (great 3D effects during Ace's solo), WITHIN, GOD OF THUNDER(with real flames again), 100,000 YEARS, etc... The set ended with ROCK& ROLL ALL NITE & a HUGE confetti storm & pyro display. This time the confetti were larger leaflets which blew outward & over the whole crowd. The house lights came on after R&R ALL NITE which looked like an accident since the band was literally still on stage. They went out & the encores proceeded with BETH, DETROIT(with cool car crash 3D) & BLACK DIAMOND(WITHOUT the cherry pickers & only the drum riser going up). Great show although I WAS MADE & MAKIN LOVE were cut out. The next day I ran into Gene Simmons at the airport & presented him with the new KISS HELL which he liked, he let me peruse the Playboy layouts & they are VERY cool, with a real KISS style to them. I asked about the set list & obscure songs & Gene said "Imagine you're a football player & you're kicking the ball & everyone in the stadium thinks you're kicking it for them!" Gene signed things for many people at a small airport resraurant & then we said bye.
