Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: A Guy

I had seen Kiss only once, 1989 The Hot in the Shade tour (not real KISS). I missed them in 96 and I knew I couldn't pass up this opportunity. I wanted to see what I didn't have a chance to see in the 70's

First off, this show somehow managed to be the best and worst concert I've ever been to. Ace was either wasted or he really sucks. I'd like to think that he was wasted. Psycho Circus was the opener and the rest of the set list was identical to all the shows dating back to Boston, I think. Anyway, Psycho Circus could have been great but somebody kept screwing up. I think it might have been both Gene and Ace but definately Ace. Ace could barely stand up and his playing was very sloppy and slow. He played the wrong parts in Psycho Circus and Shout it out loud over and over again. Gene's bass was feeding back or something during shout it out loud. Within was completly screwed up. I think they all 4 were playing their parts wrong on this one. Especially Gene. Plus the sound guys sucked!!! Worst mix I've ever heard. This was the worst musical performance I have ever heard from a sound and musician's standpoint for a band of this caliber. >From a performance standpoint, the best. I know a lot of you die hard Kiss fans are bored with the blood, flying, Pyro etc.. but to me, this was my first REAL kiss show and I thought it was a great performance, just lousy playing and sound. The show was really entertaining overall.

Bottom Line:
1. REHEARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2, Drop "Within" from the set, if you can't nail it at this point in the tour, give it up!
3. Ace, for Christ's sake, lay off the booze and dope or learn how to play wasted like Eddie Van Halen!
4. I want to hear HOTTER THAN HELL!!!!
5. Into the Void was awesome, Ace must have sobered up a little by this point.
