Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Roman Danyew

9 of us crazy, clinging-to-our-youth-while-in-our-late-20's freaks made the pilgrimmage from Syracuse and had a great time. I am a huge KISS fan since day one, but most of the others had never seen KISS before and were more casual fans. I was curious what they would think. They were impressed.

The rumors about Econoline Crush sucking are not true. I did not know one song, but they sounded decent for a young band.

The rumors about the 3-D stuff sucking are also not true. The screen is so far away that some of the "whoa. that was close" effect is lost, but the images were cool. There was a greater variety of different images and computer animation than I thought there would be too.

The set list was pretty true to form - Psycho Circus, Shout It Out Loud & Deuce to start it off and Rock-N-Roll All Nite, Beth & Black Diamond to finish it off.

The thing that makes a KISS show different than any other - like a Pink Floyd - is that they have the cool stage show and special effects, but they are still the stars. At a Floyd show, you might as well be listening to the album during the show because the effects are apart from the band members. With KISS, you need Gene spitting blood, Ace screamin' the licks behind the smoking guitar. With KISS you need Paul dry humpin' his custom Washburn and Peter smiling atop the 30 foot smoking drum riser.

The music also makes it different. It's much better live. It's not about being awesome musicians, it's about creating an energy that sorta pumps you up. I think as KISS fans we need to stop comparing KISS to everyone else musically because there is only one KISS sound. KISS albums are great, but KISS comes alive onstage in an arena with a thousand other freaks pumping their fists.

When you go to a KISS show, expect to be stupid for a while, pump your fists, enjoy the show. Music is a release and a KISS concert is neccessary every once in a while.
