Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Chris Stompanato

KISS rocked the Rockford Metro Centre last night. The Metro Centre is a smaller arena that was roughly 85% full. The band worked hard, as the always do and were musically excellent.

No real surprises, except for the fact that the show suffered a number of technical glitches:

-Ace's first rocket shot from his guitar misfired. It shot out over the first few rows on the main floor. You could just see from his face he was thinking "What the..."

-The sound cut out for about 3 seconds during "Rock And Roll All Nite." This occurred right after Paul urges the crowd to sing the chorus. It was strangest thing I've seen happen. When the sound kicked back in, they really didn't miss a beat. Ace was laughing his ass off.

-The end of the show was very strange. First of all, they set off probably close to 20 or so bombs at the end of "Black Diamond" accompanied by balls of flames shooting in the air. The thing was, they did not do the typical big power chord ending and there was no "We love you-goodnight." It just kind of ended. It looked like the drums didn't rise as far as they should have.

None of this really detracted from a great show. Someone mentioned in a prior review that Paul "fell" into the crowd after flying to his platform during "Love Gun." He did this in Rockford, so it's part of the show. After the second verse of the song, he just jumped off the platform and slapped hands with some of the crowd.

The 3-D went over very well, especially at first. When those first images came on the screen, I could just see people around me reacting to it. The live 3-D camera was very cool. It added a certain surreal feel when you watched the screen. Towards the end of the show, they had it on and confetti was blowing all around the stage, and I could swear the confetti was all around me even though it wasn't.

I'd also like to give kudos to the folks working the cameras for the show. Great camera angles from behind the band, super close-ups of their fingers playing, their boots, etc. They do a great job.

Looking forward to Milwaukee and Chicago!
