Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

From: Scott Pistner

First off, I was a little surprised at the amount of empty seats. The employee at the ticket window claimed to have only presold 6,000 tickets and were expecting to presell 10,000. This was my first disappointment. Econoline Crush came on and I really thought they were pretty cool. They only received a few random boo's, but this is a college town and these guys get airplay on the local modern rock station. Finally the lights go down, the infamous intro is heard, and the curtain drops and THE band rips into Psycho Circus. Awesome! They were tight and sounded better than ever. The crowd, however, sucked. This was my second (and final, thank god) disappointment. Maybe this was due to the couple thousand empty seats, but every one was silent. You could practically hear a pin drop betwen songs. Paul had to actually ask if we were still out there. How embarrassing! Another interesting point of the show came after "Shout It Out Loud". Paul was going to go into his "People over there let me hear ya!" bit, but was interrupted by someone shining a pocket laser in his face. Mid sentence he stopped and said "We're here to have a good time, but there's always one asshole in the crowd..." Paul then promised to shove that thing so far up his ass... the next time he shined that on him...and told him to "save it for your twelve year old friends, not here!" quite comical, but Paul was obviously pissed. The show was'nt without technical difficulties either. Gene's flying apparatus (or the person operating it) did'nt work properly. It dropped him off too far back and too low. Gene had to actully step up and forward and struggled a bit to get to his platform. He gave someone backstage the look of death. Also during Peter's solo (which was awesome, I might add) his riser was'nt going back in place on its own. It appeared that it was being pulled back into place by the road crew, unevenly, causing the riser to sway back and forth. Peter had to extend his solo a bit to make up for this problem. Paul covered nicely by adding "Amazing...He was up there longer than John Glenn!" Hopefully these were just early tour gremlins. Enough about the not so good stuff. The set list was what I expected with the exception of 'Makin' Love'. The band sounded great and the 3-D effects worked way better than I ever imagined. If anyone from the band reads this: "I'm embarrassed and I'm sorry for the lousy audience. You deserve better than what we gave you!" If anyone who was there reads this: "KISS were there for you and you wer'nt there for them-how pitiful." Please note this goes out to everyone as a whole not the individual, because there were some diehards who would have rocked even if they were there alone. Sorry to end this one on a sour note. My next stop is NY City, where I know the show and the crowd for that matter, will be 'PSYCHO' as it should be! Thanks for listening.
