Psycho Circus Tour Reviews

Nassau Coliseum 11/27/98

Well out of all three nights - I finally got a different show! A shorter show - that found the band skipping the "rarely performed" Makin' Love (possibly one other - I Was Made For Loving You - maybe - after 3 shows who can remember), rushing through the set, and even cutting short some of the between song banter. I was also dissappointed to find the band started early! They started at 9:00 instead of 9:15 at the other 2 shows, (Continental Arena & MSG) and finished at 11:00pm, instead of 11:15. So there was 15 minutes cut out of the show. I think there may have been an issue with the local police being there past 11:30 - not sure though. You will want to try to find out if it's an early, abbreviated show when they play your area. Also I was running a little late and they ran out of glasses(!). I knew it going to happen sooner or later - I went to get glasses and was told to go to a security booth, a few sections down. When I got there, I was told there were no more glasses. S! o my friends and I go to our seats, and the guys sitting in the next few seats are sitting there with at least 3 extra pairs of glasses - each! So we explained the situation to them and they reluctantly agreed to give us the extra pairs they had. If there are only going to be enough glasses for that one night then they should not allow anyone to take more than 2 pairs per person. Either that or just have so many that it doesn't matter! Or just get there early.

The crowd was very into it! Probably the best crowd of the 3 nights. Paul started right off about the Laser pointers (3rd or 4th song in), and where he would shove them! And he is now smashing the Washburns!! He must of finally run out of Icemen! Peter was definitely a little more fired up, he was hitting the drums much harder than I had seen before. I didn't notice if he was getting his shoulder's massaged or not but he seemed in much better spirits. He should sing more rockers too - his hard singing voice is AWESOME! One technical note: The cymbals need to be miked better - or turned up - they get lost in the mix. Gene's rigging performed flawless this time, he even seems to be getting used to the costume and how it can get tangled up in the lines. Also no sound trouble like at MSG. Ace's effect in RARAN went off a little early and was finished long before the end of the solo - but it was still cool.

Even though they did not do Makin' Love they did a NY Groove jam. During the intro to Detriot Rock City, Paul was talking about different cities and said New York is their home then Ace started doing the intro part, and the Peter started and then Paul and Gene. They did a minute or 2 of the song, and Ace even tried to get in the ending jam part - very cool. Paul made a comment about "finishing what you start..." Overall - a little bit of a dissapointment with the early start and finish - but a very different show. The pyro was extremely subdued, compared to my jarring experience at MSG. The MSG show had percussion bombs behind the stage to make the explosions seem stronger, but not at Nassau - and even less confetti! The pre-taped video segments were in a slightly different order which made it a little more interesting too. Considering it was a different show (time, songs, pyro) the band seemed perfectly comfortable with the changes.
