KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Dan
All in all, a fantastic show. These guys really are leaving on top...a lot of people (mostly non-fans) say they should have called it quits years ago, but after seeing them perform here in Austin, you get the feeling they have a good four or five years left in them. Here's a brief song-by-song look...

DETROIT ROCK CITY: Great start with high energy. From this first song, I could tell the band was more into it than I had seen recently. Animation of a car crash on the screen (BTW, it was nice to seem some added extras on this final tour, like all the animations...too bad they couldn't add new songs however :)

DEUCE: Good, nothing special.

SHOUT IT OUT LOUD: Sounded great! Really got the crowd into it...seems like either the crowd was more quiet than most or if I was just deaf from Skid "Youth Gone Away" Row.

I LOVE IT LOUD: Very cool, though it seemed wrong seeing someone other than Eric pounding that drum riff.

FIREHOUSE: Nice.

HEAVEN'S ON FIRE: Excellent! Seemed like the non-Animalize members were even really into it.

SHOCK ME: Great performance by Ace.

CALLING DR. LOVE: Nothing special, but good.

DO YOU LOVE ME: EXCELLENT video to go with this song (wish they'd do this more!).

2000 MAN (Ace solo): Favorite song of the night, and Ace seems to really enjoy himself on this one. Sounds great! Also, cool video to go with it.

PSYCHO CIRCUS: Cool to hear live (once).

LICK IT UP: Rather hear other non-makeup songs, but this was fine.

GOD OF THUNDER (Gene's solo): Probably the best performance I've seen since the reunion tour. Gene still looks scared...looks like he's going shit "The Log of Thunder" when he's up in the ceiling. Also, Ace didn't come back out until the chorus...does this usually happen?

100,000 YEARS: Opening bass riff sounded awesome! One of the better songs of the night.

COLD GIN: Glad they have Ace sing the second verse...sounds great!

LOVE GUN: Sorry, fans, but I'm sick to death of this song. Cool that Paul comes out to the audience, but this song is not good.

BLACK DIAMOND: Peter sounded great. I loved the "I Still Love You" intro, but what a tease! I know everyone says this, but I wish there were more 'rarities'. How about "Larger Than Life"? "Almost Human"? "Fits Like a Glove" (my favorite non-makeup Kiss song)?

BETH: Peter didn't screw it up...sounded great.

RNRAN: Nothing new, but how else could they end the concert?

Well worth the price of admission. Sorry to see them go, but I'm looking forward to Alive IV (?) and the mother of all box sets (?). Later!
