KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Mike Collins
It was a miserably cool, rainy night in Mansfield, MA. for the second of two sold out Farewell Tour shows at the Tweeter Center. Despite the weather, Kiss warmed the chilly night air with their usual array of flashpots and fireworks for the last time in southeastern New England. As a 10 time Kiss concert goer, I thought the show was slightly lethargic. The usual high spirited antics of the band were missing..very little fun seemed to be had onstage. The sound was clear, but the guitar mix was buried and difficult to distinguish between Ace and Paul. Ace's leads did not stand out.The boys' seemed to have trouble with the stage monitors for much of the night.Ace and Paul even got into a short verbal spat before "2000 Man"as Frehley left the stage to change guitars. When Ace returned he shouted into the mike,"That's why we love Paul, he's 'Mr. Friendly'". The inclusion of the non make-up songs went over well..but older fans seemed to prefer hearing some of the missing classics. I heard a few people say they thought the band were "going through the motions". The energy just didn't seem to be there. I have no doubt that the Reunion and Psycho Circus shows that I saw were better. It was probably just an off night..I know my review sounds negative, but a slightly off Kiss show is still a better night than any other bands great shows. Peter, Paul, Gene and Ace..Farewell and thanks for nearly 30 years of fun and memories.
