KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Renee
I have been waiting for someone else to write a review of this show and it just isn't happening. I have never done anything like this and hope that I can do justice to what I consider the greatest show I have ever seen. I have been to alot of concerts but I can tell you this...absolutely NO ONE knows how to put on a show like KISS. They know exactly what their fans want and expect and they do not disappoint. If you are reading this review to determine whether you should go to a show...DO IT! Run as fast as you can to the box office to get your ticket! I attended my first ever KISS concert the night before the Buffalo show in Toronto. We were in the 100 level straight back from the stage. I was so excited to be there after so many years of loving the music I could barely stand it. When the Who song came on (Won't Get Fooled Again) and hit the mark where the curtain drops I nearly lost my mind...however, in typical KISS fashion they made you wait just a little longer...the anticipation building. Then the lights went completely out and I heard the words I had been waiting three months to hear "Hello Toronto...You Wanted the Best..YOU GOT THE BEST!" I was so overwhelmed I could barely stand up. Then they decended from a riser that was lit up like a Kiss-mas tree! The music itself was so loud and so clear and the lighting so bright I could not have asked for anything more...I am mentioning the Toronto show here because it was so overwhelming that I definitely was thankful I would be going to the Buffalo show the next night just to really see all the parts of the show as compared to the entire experience of Toronto (being my first). For about the first 15 minutes I could not move. Can I just say that this show blew me away? At the Buffalo show we were in Row 7 Center Floor. What a contrast! I was able to take pictures at both shows and they came out AWESOME! It was nice to see both perspectives (up close and far away).

The set list was the same for both shows but I do feel that the Buffalo show had more energy. Paul was absolutely, positively PERFECT. He is the best entertainer I have ever seen. His enthusiasm and energy is contagious. At one point during a long solo several people in the first few rows sat down and Paul came out and said "Are you tired? Don't get tired people...look they are 25 years old and they are tired!" That got them back up on their feet! The only real difference in the monologue was when Paul was introducing Ace to sing 2,000 Man he said "this is a song about the new millenium--we don't know how to spell it but that is what it is about!" and in Buffalo he actually DID spell it!

Ace was absolutely incredible. He was in a great mood. I am hoping that the guy I went with writes his own review because he has a great Ace story...at one point he caught Ace goofing around and Ace saw it! But I'll let him tell that one...Ace played 2001: A space odyssey during his solo which the crowd loved!

Peter was in a great mood and it was nice to see him truly enjoying himself. Gene was perfect with all the mechanical aspects of his "God of Thunder" theatrics working perfectly. Gene has the most incredible and strong voice I have ever heard. He almost doesn't need a microphone! Paul was absolutely INCREDIBLE during his "Love Gun" flying act. It was overwhelming to see him flying over the heads of the audience and landing on a small platform stage in a sea of fans and entertaining them up close and personal. He truly gives everything he has. I got a picture of that and to see him engulfed by a frenzied crowd is quite exhilerating!

As the show continued I found myself still in absolute awe of them and the way they completely control the audience. I was hoping that the show wouldn't have to end. When it did and the confetti came pouring out of the pipes it was as if a celebration was taking place. My friend caught a Paul Stanley pick at that point which kind of surprised me since all throughout the show he and Ace threw about 100 picks each and they did not travel beyond the first few rows. For that to go to the 7th Row was just another unexpected treat. To hear Paul end the show saying that if we ever go to another concert and the band makes us feel like they are doing us a favor by being there just remember that there once was a band that for 27 years tried to give their fans everything they ever could ask for and they knew that the fans were the ones doing them a favor not the other way around. I just love KISS--they make you feel like you are just as important to them as they are to you!

If you have the opportunity to go to this Farewell show...GO. If you already have tickets...you are in for the time of your life. If you read reviews that are less than perfect...dont believe them...this is the greatest experience I have ever had and everyone should be so lucky to have lived through it. Thank you KISS for all the incredible memories! I will never forget this weekend for as long as I live!
