KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Eddie Helms
Here is a quick run down of last night's show in Charlotte, NC. After the Skids and Nugent played, a huge black curtain dropped down with a sliver KISS logo on it. The crowd went nuts! When the lights went out, you could not hear yourself think. Then those magic words were spoken: "All Right Charlotte, You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best! The Hottest Band In The World, KISS!" The curtain dropped as the band, while playing "Detroit Rock City", came down from the rafters on platform similar to the one used on the Animalize tour. Peter Criss's entire drumkit was lowered by chains while he was playing!

I don't remember the exact order of songs, but "Deuce" was next. All the classics were played, and a few from the 80s were as well. The band really tried to please everyone. From playing "Heaven's On Fire" "I Love It Loud" and "Lick It Up" to Ace doing a medley of "New York Groove" "Ozone" and "Hard Times" and to Paul doing a solo version of "I Still Love You," the band really tried to cover the entire span of KISStory. And of course, there was the spitting fire during "Firehouse," and spitting blood during "God Of Thunder," Ace shooting rockets into the lighting rigs, Ace's smoking solo and his flaming pinwheel on his flashing guitar, Gene's flying into the rafters, and Paul flying out into the audience to the middle of the arena.

One thing I liked was no drum solo during "God Of Thunder." Peter played a very short solo during "100,000 Years" instead. I've always thought that song sounded better when it isn't stopped for a solo.

One of the highlights from the show was during "Do You Love Me." While the band was playing, the video screen show vintage footage of the band in the early days as well as some the more recent stuff. At the very end of the song, the screen simply said three words, "We Love You." It makes you pretty sad, actually.

On a final note, after Peter sung "Beth", all four guys came out to take a bow. I imagine Peter must've been crying a bit, because he turned his back to the crowd and Ace said "It's ok, man." Then he hugged him. Then they played "Rock And Roll All Nite" and showered the place in confetti. I'd really hate to e the one who has to clean up the place after the show! Well, that's it. Not alot of detail, but it's just some of the highlights. Thanks!
