KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: John B.
Well, how do you start? After all, these guys are like family to most of us and though it's sad to see it end it's great to have been apart of the Kiss Army and to see the guys going out on top. And, going out on top is exactly what their doing. Frankly, Chattanooga is notorious for bad crowds and bad sound and to some degree this show was no different therefore i almost didn't bother with a review but since i'm seeing the guys twice in one week i'd figured I would do a follow up to this review after the Nashville show on 4/28/00. Nashville being one of the Kiss strongholds for years will give me a good counterpoint to the 4/24/00 Chattanooga show. Anyway, after missing Skid Row and having to sit throught Nugent (someone explain the logic in Cheap Trick turning down this tour)it only made the anticipation grow...by the way Ted, i didn't pay my hard earned money to hear your political rantings; so shut up and play! After the usual pre-concert listening of the Who's "Want get fooled Again" the curtain drops and we're off...Kiss opens with DTRC with the trio descending on the lighting rig and Pete coming down on the drums...makes for a smoother intro than the first shows on the tour. Classic, high powered Kiss...great stage (much better that PC)and the first half of the concert was about as good as you could get. Honestly, the guys sounded good...sure Ace isn't what he used to be but as some reviewers have pointed out he's on his marks...much better than his poor showing on the PC tour. The show was high energy, the 80's songs sounding very good, everything is cruising along until "2,000 man". For some reason the energy in the crowd died...and then very few understood Ace's solo and trying to tip his hat to some of his solo stuff. Maybe it was because it was a Monday night but for whatever reason the crowd was pretty dead until the last several songs and then the boys closed the show out in classic fashion...a great ending, best ever. All in all, even with the dead crowd through the middle half of the show it was still a great concert...i do think they cut back on the pyro (fire marshall reasons probably)and this is probably one of the few shows that hasn't sold out but still a great show. Much, much better than PC. Having friends that have worked both the Reunion and PC tours they had stated that the PC tour was their last (Gene also said that was the original plan in the Metal Edge Tour book)i'm just gratefull they're giving us one last shot to see them and giving us a great show to boot.
