KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Odyssey
This was the best show and I had a terrific time.... but first thing's first:

Us Clevelanders were treated to a nice surprise when Gene and Paul anounced earlier in the day that they were gonna do a meet and greet at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

By the time me and my group of friends got there, the line was pretty long. They were there from 4pm till 5. I was about 7 rows away when they announced that it was time for them to leave and go do soundcheck. I didn't get to meet them and get autographs, but I did get some great video footage.

And now, welcome to the show....

I had every intention to write down the set list...but to tell you the truth, I was so into the show to take a few seconds to pause and write down the song.

They did change their opening, from what we saw on VH1. Gene, Paul, and Ace are being lowered on one platform playing Detroit Rock City, and Peter, already at his drum set - playing, comes down on his riser.

I Love It Loud, Heaven's On Fire, and Lick It Up sounded terrific and was so cool to see Ace and Peter play them. Paul even teased us with another 80's gem. He sang part of I Still Love You as his intro to Black Diamond.

Paul had no corny raps, about this next song is off of (insert album here). It was all about Cleveland being the Rock And Roll City, and we made their dreams come true, the meaning of the Fairwell tour. And what I thought was the best one, was the one for Rock And Roll All Nite.

I can't rememeber it word for word, but it was something to do about having a message. How the press stated that they wouldn't last, and we prooved them wrong. When the make-up came off, the press said it was over - and we prooved them wrong. When they anounced a Fairwell Tour, the press said no one will care, and with a sold out show and a second date added - we prooved them wrong. It was sweet!

There was alot of interaction between the guys. Alot of high-fives. Paul would turn to Peter and play. Ace did this also. Ace was all over the stage and up and the amps. One time, he was too far from the mic, and missed the first few words to Shock Me.

Gene's blood for God Of Thunder was the best and goryest that I've seen him do. He looked so evil and I was loveing every minute of it. And when he was up on the high rise, as I was pumping my fists and singing every word, I felt like I was bowing for the god.

Paul's flight to the center stage for Love Gun seems to still have it's problems. He made it all the way to about 2 or 3 feet from it. A rush of security came and litterally pushed him to the stage. He got on and ready to go and the crowd wents nuts! From where I was sitting, I was 5 rows from the center stage. The rig made it back fine, but you could see that discouraged look in his face.

One other mishap that Paul had, was during 100,000 Years. One of the times he threw the microphone up, and didn't catch it. I don't know if he triped or what, but he ended up rolling on the stage, when he went to pick up the mic up.

Ace's solo didn't include any riffs from other songs. It was the Alive solo, with 2001. He's now shooting at confetti filled baloons.

They had to cut down on the pyro a bit, due to Cleveland's fire marshall, but what did use still put me in awe. The whole show did. The crowd was very much into it. God know I was. I was drenched with sweat from clapping, pumping my fists, and moving. I voice is gone from singing, woo-hooing, and chanting. I finally got misty-eyed at the end of Rock And Roll All Nite as I'm being rained on by ALOT of confetti and streamers.

As I'm sitting here writing this review, I'm starting to feel the downer of that this is it. I do hope that I'll be able to see them a few more times at other shows, that I'm planning. I'm sure there are a few things that I've missed, but I've the entire show running through my mind and it's hard to talk about everything I want to say.

I loved it. I just want to say that I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't know who KISS is, and isn't a KISS fan. They will never see a show like this, and now, will never have a chance to see it. They are missing so much!

My last words: I hope someone will be selling this video. I want it!!
