KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Carmen De Luccia
The concert rocked!!! They gave one hell of a performance, despite what the review of the previous Jones Beach show said (that Ace looked apathetic and Peter looked like a domesticated Tabby). Ace looked more alert than he did for the Psycho Circus Tour. Paul's voice seems to have gotten better since he did Phantom, the only problem is that now he sings everything. I mean everything. I think he is incapable of speech at this point. I always get a kick out of his falsetto "Hello People", but this time he sounded like he was at an audition for the next Andrew Lloyd Weber musical. It was actually endearing, but admittedly made me chuckle at points. Although, I have to say that his voice impressed me. He also gave an odd lecture about the spirit of rock and roll...during which he sounded like a singing evangelical preacher. Very cute. Gene was typically entertaining ( and my favorite special effect:) )...although he messed up a little during "Lick it Up" when he started to sing a chorus where there wasn't one... it was quickly covered. There seemed to be more fire and what-not during "God of Thunder"; it was, as always a crowd pleaser. Peter was very Peter. His mic went out during "Beth" which seemed to anger him slightly, but then everything seems to anger him slightly. Ace's rocket stunt knocked down a light (which wasn't supposed to happen) and his guitar just didn't light up when it "flew away", which he met with a laugh. The addition of "Heaven's on Fire", "Lick it Up", "I Love it Loud"(which ROCKED!!!), and the segment of " I Still Love You" was very cool and long overdue. " I Love it Loud" was AWESOME live...the crowd was pumped during it. Overall there were more fire effects and explosions. One cool feature was the video archive rolling during "Do You Love Me". It showed clips from old shows in the 70s. There was also a cool abduction animation during "2000 Man". "Rock and Roll All Night" had more confetti than I ever thought was created. They went out on risers with Peter's cat banner hanging from under his drum set. This exit was pretty cool since they came in out of the rafters...it made things a sort of full circle.

Ok the opening acts.... Skid Row, sans Sebastian Bach, was actually good. The new lead sounds like Sebastion which was a good move since last tour when they were Blue Monday, and doing "origionl" songs they sucked. They did "18 and Life", "Youth Gone Wild" and "I Remember You". It was very cool to hear some old 80s tunes live. OK... Ted Nugent. That's all I can say, and it's not a compliment. I know that there are a lot of Ted fans...there were a lot there last night, but I just don't know why. He was annoying and loud and arrogent. He just didn't know how to end a song...they dragged on and on and on. Eventually I had to leave because he was bothering me so much, but when I went into the hallway I found a shirt for sale stating "One Nation Under Ted". Brilliant. He made some comment about those who don't speak english and how they should get out of the counrty, which just about cemented in my mind how much of a tool this guy is. He was not amusing. He "sacrificed" his guitar at the end of the show, while wearing a confederate flag shirt and an Indian headress. I wish someone would have sacrificed him.

Overall a kickass show. I'm going again tonight (28th), maybe I'll write a review of this show too. I hope that Kiss enjoys doing this show as much as us die hard fans enjoy being there. They will be missed. Ledgends Never Die.
