KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Tom M
There must be something about Evansville and falling lighting rigs. Back inthe 70's when Kiss first came to Evansville, I was ten and I remember reading about stage lights falling down back then. When Ace shot off his guitar on the right side of the stage, a piece of the lights fell down with it. If someone had been standing there, they could have been seriously hurt. Ok here goes from the top.

Skid Row....loud, distorted....how many more minutes before Kiss? At least though Gene and Paul are asking more guitar orientated bands to open for them. On the reunion tour we had to put up with some real garbage music. Skid Row seemed pretty cool, they just had a bad mix off the board. I kept watching my watch.

Uncle Ted....made me wanna holler. There were only two times in life I ever got excited at a public event. Once in Orlando at Universal Studios Twister ride, and now with my guru Uncle Ted Nugent. Most of his in between lines started out with the words, "No Sh*t," then he would talk a little before breaking in to the next song. I remember when I was a kid, Ted Nugent was often a headliner here in Evansville, and he would come off the rafters swinging in a tarzan outfit. Ted and Kiss often played Evansville in the 70's, it was nice to feel nostalgic.

Ted has a few grips about immigrants. Even though immigrants will know more about our country than most native born Americans after their citizenship test, even though immigrants work circles around many hard working Americans, and even though English is the main language in most other countries besides the U.S., he is apparently tired of having someone wait onhis table, or clean his hotel with a blank stare when he speaks with them. I agree with his views on Clinton, Al whore Gore, and the Reverend,......I use that term loosly Jackson. Uncle Ted really only says these obnoxious phrases for shock value. I mean listento the lyrics of White Buffalo. He speaks sympathetic of the Native Americans who were hurt by Whitie. Check out the name of the bass player......Mendoza.......hmmmmmm wonder if anyone in his family spoke Spanish. Ted often reffered to him as his blood brothers. Don't take Ted to seriously when he trys to piss ya off and you will like him....besides most of his views are correct, he just doesn't use politically correct speech. It's time to hear the other side since the media vomits nothing but liberal communist retoric. Ted you will be missed. His portion of the night was true, pure, rock in it's real form. I could listen to him anyday. Thanks Ted.

Kiss finally took the stage around 9ish. Oh by the way, thanks Ace for showing up, I hope we didn't mess up your plans. Kiss has came out of the floor for Dynasty, desended from the rafters for Animalize, and Hot in the Shade, and just stood there for the reunion tour. This time they desended from the top of the lights on a hydrolic stage lift. Kinda cool, but they have done it all so you know what can you say. Anytime Kiss takes the stage it's gonna be Kool. After opening with Detroit Rock City, they went with the classic line up except they added heavens on fire, lick it up as well as I love it loud. I was glad, the psycho circus tour was a rehash of the same stuff. I enjoyed the concert. Ace seemed to also since last time in Evansville he seemed to just stand there and play. Everyone did a good job. Peter's drums sounded good although he didn't have to hit them too hard, and Paul knocked over a mic stand when he flew out to sing in the audience. He mouthed the words, "it's alright" when he realized he couldn't sing anymore out there.

I know many will disagree, but I don't care. Ladies, and I am being generous, please remember there are kids in the audience when you take off your clothes to flash the band. And if you are fat, please reconsider. Kiss never said the F word....thanks Paul, due to the ten year olds that often spotted the crowd. Only Ted said it once or twice. My buddy and I enjoyed picking out the obese trailer trash couch potatos that were often seen thoughout the audience. Somehow between all that beer and food, they were able to cough up enough money from thier welfare checks to get better seats than we were. Keep working people, millions on welfare depend on you.

Kiss closed the show with Beth and rock and roll all nite. There was so much confettii that at times you couldn't see the band. It flew all the way out to us. We did spot Doc McGee in the crowd walking around.......nice tan dude.

All in all, I have to say I am glad I went, but glad I grew up also. I often thought about my little six month old baby at home waiting for me. Nothing can compare to holding his little body next to mine. Not even this Kiss concert. It was a good party, but like every good party, it was time to go home. Farewell Tour?.....yeah right. Gene likes money toomuch. I predict most of his projects will go the same dead end routes that they did in the 80's. Ace will become bankrupt again. Paul and Peter will do fine, but one of these days I'll be driving down the road and hear that some really old guys are gonna make a come back from the 70's on the radio. I'll get a ticket and see Mr Simmons in a wheelchair with a IV hangin from his arm saying, "Evansville I can't hear ya." Ace will be on kidney machine but that's kool at least they will all be back together.........again.
