KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Andy Frueh
Well, a friend of mine and I were talking and we realized that not only had he NEVER seen KISS (he isn't really a fan) but this would be his last chance to do so. We're both from Louisville, and I saw the band at that show (see review). Couldn't pass up a second chance to see them, so we went to the show in E'ville. ;-)

Skid Row provided their usual energetic (but brief and simple) opener. Ted was a bit more subdued. He certainly got the crowd going a lot, but at the Lou show, he talked a lot more in between songs and REALLY got the crowd worked up. This time out, he just kept saying "No shit!" and little else. Yawn.

A quick comment on folks that can get to Roberts Stadium in Evansville...it's SMALL. VERY small. However, even though I waited ages to get my tickets, the seats were great (about 10 rows back from Paul's Love Gun platform) and because everyone was so packed together, the crowd was FULL of energy and everything soundwise was good and loud. If you can see a show here, I encourage you to do so. Sometimes the largest venues are NOT the best (although I miss the REALLY massive pyro shows).

This time around, KISS seemed a LOT more relaxed...almost TOO relaxed, but you could certainly tell they were having a GREAT time (as were the fans). DRC and Deuce were really tight, but things got a bit muddled after that, with a few wrong notes here and there (expected at a live show, but KISS usually plays pretty accurately...not so this time around).

Paul announced that Peter had something he wanted to say. It was (apparently) funny, but only he laughed. The audience just kept looking around asking "HUH?" If anyone knows what was said, I'd like to know!

God of Thunder was probably the best tune of the set, but that's one of my favorites anyway. Gene seemed ESPECIALLY pleased with the way the crowd was chanting his name after he "flew" up to his platform. In all honesty, I had never experienced a crowd cheering for him so enthusiastically...and he deserved every chant he got. He played The Demon up very well.

The lenghty "We'll miss you" speech was cut fairly short. Maybe Paul is getting tired of saying it.

It's almost too bad that fewer fans are smokers...there was a noticeable shortage of lighters during "Beth" :)

All-in-all, it was a good show, made even better by a smaller-than-average venue and a pumped-up crowd. Can't wait for the PPV.
