KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Lee Fisher
After having seen Kiss twice during the non-makeup era and on the Reunion Tour, I didn't really expect a whole lot of difference but I was really suprised. Although the Reunion show was fantastic, this one blew it away for me.

To start with, there didn't seem to be a bad seat in the Bi-Lo Center. It was real easy to find (we drove from about 200 miles away). Everything fell into place. Skid Row played well, but the sound was really distorted and I began to worry about the arena's acoustics. Those worries were unfounded though, because when Ted Nugent took the stage, the sound cleared up real quick and the doors started rattling in their hinges. I won't spend much time on Ted, except to say that if you think he has pissed some people off on this tour, you haven't seen or heard anything compared to his intro in Greenville, SC. Just think Confederate Flag and put that with Ted's uber-conservative political leanings and you'll have an idea. It was classic and hilarious. Now to the meat of the matter. Kiss was awesome. The set list was pretty much the same as it has been for the whole tour. All four members were sharp except for one instance and that was during Shock Me. Somehow at the end of the song, Peter lost time with the rest of the band and when the rest of the band picked it back up, they did it at different times. Thus it sounded like either Ace was singing at the wrong time or Paul and Gene were doing the chorus at the wrong time. This was the only musical glitch in the whole show and they were professional with each other enough to not let it show if it did fluster them. Other than this, no one missed a lick. Ace played as well as I've ever heard him play. Paul and Gene were great as was Peter. I really didn't notice that Peter gave a sub-par performance as has been alluded to in reviews of other shows. It just seems that he's a bit more conservative with his playing and no one should fault him for that. On Gene's flight for GOT, once he was perched he mouthed to the audience twice enthusiastically " I'm allright!" and grinned. I think he's aware that it's common knowledge concerning the few mishaps he's already had with his cable rig. On a scale of 1-10 I'll give'em a 10 and my best wishes for their futures collectively. The world will NEVER forget them.
