KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: THH
I saw kiss on saturday which was the second time for this farewell tour for me and this will be the last. i saw them in april in louisville and both times they were great. they really are the best live rock and roll band ever and i am really glad that i've been able to see them several times over the course of the past 27 years. i've been a fan since 1974 although i did not follow them in the 80's after ace and peter left. i have really enjoyed seeing them again this year. this has been really nostalgic and a great time. i've seen many major bands over my lifetime as i am sure many of you have, but none can hold a candle to kiss as far as a live stage show goes.every one of us who see them are witnessing something that we will probably never see again-- a really great floor show from a band that busts their butts every night to put on a great show. its too bad more primadonna celebs don't follow their lead but thats the way it goes.

to the show saturday- awesome. the crowd was big a very energetic and the band was on fire. psycho circus was so good and so clean sounding that it sounded like it was a recording. kiss - musically and sound wise- is not always the best in concert. sometimes the sound is so loud and distorted that it is hard to know what they are playing at times. but saturday, a couple of songs sounded the best i've ever heard live and pyscho circus was killer. i think that is the best song they've had in years and it was killer.

as far as the show goes itself, i have no complaints. i always enjoy reading about the shows from others so i will point out some things:

1. paul was awesome as usual. he is - and always has been -the best front man in rock and roll and saturday was no different. he is so energetic he is amazing. he was really funny a couple of times. during one of his raps with the crowd he said "tonight is holy saturday night" then he stopped and said "or is it friday?" he looked over at gene who was standing there with his arms crossed looking at him and smiling. then pauld said "yeah, yeah, it's saturday night " and everyone cheered then he said " i really knew that all along, i was just checking to see if you were paying attention". later in the show he was trying to get the crowd to yell "rock and roll" or something and he stopped and said " we've been coming here for years and i know you used to be louder than that. what's up, are you getting old " and he and the other guys in the band looked at each other and started laughing. it was really very funny and the irony of the statement was not lost on the crowd. during firehouse, paul's mic went dead and there was a moment when there was no vocals.gene went over to the center stage mic and started singing until the mic paul was on came back on.

2. ace was as animated as i've ever seen. he was jumping around, playing on his knees and was really on . during his guitar solo, after the guitar smoked and went up on the wire, ace said "that guitar is only three years old,it's too young to smoke like that". he also ,during his solo, was talking to the crowd in the front row and on the big screen it looked like he was saying "that's rock and roll". i've never noticed him interacting with the crowd like that before. he also was looking into the camera and saying "help" when gene was getting close to him with his tongue. very funny.

3. gene was gene. what can i say. he was sweating like crazy and his makeup was almost running off his face. he was very energetic and put on his usual great show. when he flew up on top of the stage during GOT, something came out of his left ear -a mic or an ear plug or something. you could see his face on the screen and he fooled with this thing for what seemed like a long time when he suddenly got real pissed and looked up at one of the spotlights and said "hey, spotlight. could you raise that a little higher. there you go. stupid asshole has been trying to get me all night. i know where you live".

4. peter was very good as usual. he seems to enjoy this more than any of the guys. after the show, he laid down on his stomach and reached out and shook hands with people in the crowd. during beth, he looked a kid in front who was wearing cat makeup and stopped singing, pointed to her and said "that is really cool". it was a nice gesture and he seems like a really nice person.

in general, the show was great. my ears have stopped ringing and i'm back at work making a living. life is good and i'm glad i got to spend some of it watching the greatest live band to ever hit the stage. paul said at the end of the show that he hopes we look for them in our dreams because they would be looking for us in theirs and i'm afraid that they will be only fond memories by the end of the year. oh well, they've been kicking ass for 27 years so they deserve to hang it up but we'll never forget them and they will be missed.. kiss army-take care
