KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Josh Deckard
It was 6:30 when my friends and I arrived at Deer Creek Music Center in Noblesville,IN. I immediateley had to purchase my usual KISS t-shirt. We made our way to our seats just to catch the last few songs by Skid Row. They sounded about as good as it gets without Sebastian Bach. Then on came Ted Nugent. While the vocals could have been louder he didn't stop demonstrating his love for Janet Reno,Jesse Jackson,Al Gore, and Sarah Brady...all of them could kindly KISS his ASS!All in all Ted put on a good show ending his gig with the usual "arrow through the guitar". It wasn't long that the lights went out and KISS was introduced. They opened with Detroit Rock City, and then Deuce. There wasn't much difference between this show and the Psycho Circus(which they did play) tour. Ace sang Shock Me and 2000 Man. Gene flew to the rafters to sing God of Thunder and Paul flew out to the middle of the crowd to sing Love Gun. I did notice that when Ace shot the rockets to the exploding balloons, the third rocket bounced off the rafters and came back onstage almost hitting Paul. Peters drum solo was weak, and didn't compare to anything he had done before. You could tell that he was getting tired and just didn't have the energy. I do think the highlight was at the end when Paul teased everyone by singing and playing the beginning to "I still love you" and then merging into Black Diamond. At the end of the set the bombs went off, Peter sang Beth(which sounded very good)and thanked the crowd for the many years,Paul smashed his guitar, and confetti exploded out into the audience. It was an emotional farewell for all in so many different ways. No matter how predictable the KISS shows are the energy and vibe of the KISS army will never die. Long Live Paul,Gene,Peter, and Ace!!
