KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Stephen Edds
I've been a KISS fan since 1976, and saw them for the first time in 1977. I admit that my taste normally run towards U2, Bruce, Stones, Beatles, et.al., but I've always remained a KISS fan! I had to see the farewell show and took along a couple of friends who had never seen them live. First of all, Ted was great musically, and he honestly contaminates any hope of gaining political credibility by some of the crap he spewed between songs. But, off the soapbox and on to the real show!! I remember seeing a snippit of what looked to be a "through the years" video retrospective that led up to the opening during the VH-1 opening night, which I thought was cool. It was different than the one they showed during "DYLM", and I was a bit disappointed they didn't open the show with that. But they opening was great, and the band was ON! You could tell they were really excited that 23,000 people had shown up and that spurred them on. The songs were great, Gene & Paul's harness went off without a hitch, and the overall pace of the show was great. I thought they would use more pyro, but it may have been because they were outside. As for my friends, I think they were like theatre critics watching "South Park" for the first time...appalled but compelled. In other words, they had a great time! I'll probably never have a "guilty pleasure" band like KISS again, and I'm glad they came back and finally got the credit they were due, and I'm equally glad they are smart enough to know when to walk away. Thanks for the memories!!
