KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Ron Ivanjack
Indianapolis was my 10th show of the tour. I definitely consider myself lucky to have been afforded so many opportunities to see the greatest band ever. Our seats were 16th row on the floor (thanks Derek) and dead center. I’ve been fortunate enough to see two shows from the front row and one next to Paul’s Love Gun stage but never dead center. It was certainly a joy to take in the whole show from such a great vantage point.

After the small sized venues in Carbondale and Rockford, it was great to see Kiss back in a larger venue the size of the Conseco Fieldhouse. There were some empty seats but not many. Skid Row received a warm response. Their new drummer helps keep that classic Skids feel to the set. Ted Nuggent played the standard no fuss, no muss set. This will be my last time seeing him open for Kiss and I must say that I have enjoyed his sets (except Fred Bear).

This was the first time that the Kiss curtain got stuck during Won’t Get Fooled Again but that was quickly rectified. 10 minutes later Kiss took the stage. One might think that after so many times one would get “immune” but the feeling when Kiss descends from the ceiling and you see them in the flesh is the greatest thing I’ve ever felt. With the bigger venue, there was tons of pyro. No technical glitches and everyone played well. During the Cold Gin wrap, Ace mocked gulping several drinks. Paul’s Love Gun wraps are hilarious. He really does his best to make that crowd feel like number 1. Paul flew directly over me which was exciting. At one point he couldn’t remember if it was Friday or Saturday which made for some comedy. One thing I think I failed to mention previously is that Paul now sings two verses of I Still Love You. The only thing I will say about the set is that the ending of Black Diamond is too short. Peter rises up and just as quickly is returned. The whole thing is done in 20 seconds.

What else can be said? This is the greatest live band and there will never be anything that can compare to Kiss. Oh yeah, the best part…I’ve got two more shows at the end of the month. Until then…
