KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Jeff Valdez
For once I have to agree with the ever modest Paul Stanley....no one, I mean no one can put a show on like Kiss as he told the packed amphitheater of screaming fans, "that when you come back here to see another show....this is what you should see, not some band up here in jeans pretending to be just like you...you deserve a show!" And that is exactly what we got! The hottest band in the world!

Interestingly enough, while driving to the venue the local radio station announced that Kiss' flight was late or something, so the show would start late. What was up with that? We got there at 7:10, and Skid Row had already hit the stage. We missed them...I kinda wanted to see them, oh well. Uncle Ted came out about 7:50, and kicked major ass for like an hour. When he first started playing it was still light outside and only scatters of people were in their seats. But, let me tell you...about 20 minutes into his show, when he hit the first notes of Cat Scratch Fever, the crowd was on their feet, the place was packed, and remained standing for the rest of his set. Regardless of what people have said about Ted's remarks in the past, you have to admit this guy puts on one helluva show. I took my girlfriend who is pretty much a liberal democrat, (opposite of Ted), and she took it all in stride, was not offended even when he told pretty much every democrat in office to kiss his ass, and actually said he was a good performer. So...people loosen up, I don't agree with everything he says, but damn...Ted kicks ass!

Anyhow, back to the main show....the hottest band on the planet. KISS! Kiss came on around 9:35, and proceeded to blow up the place for the next two hours. I won't bore everyone with the set list, we all know by now that is ain't changing, with the exception of maybe a different order. Anyhow, a way cool entrance with kiss descending from the rafters while playing Detroit Rock City... What a kick ass opener! Then Kiss would not disappoint as they ripped almost immediately into Deuce. Thankfully, from what I could gather everything went on without a hitch. Gene flew, and did not get stuck on the way down, like at Anaheim...Paul flew out to a little stage during Love Gun, Ace blew up his guitar and shot confetti balls from the rafters...Peter's platform rose to the heavens during Black Diamond...All and all another great Kiss show. Tons of pyro, and the heat from the flames during Heaven's on Fire will scorch your face for sure! Paul kept his often meaningless rants to a minimum, and I actually enjoyed him singing part of I Still Love you (not a big Paul fan) Gene was awesome, as usual, he was meant to play the role of the Demon. Peter was great, don't know why people have had the nerve to complain about his drumming...let's see them pound the skins like Peter when they're 50+ years. Ace was well...you know, the man who makes the show! If it weren't for Ace's solo's and onstage performance, I don't think there would be much musically speaking. Ace is way under rated as a guitar player. His performance was basically what made the show, and I think everyone knew it judging by the response everytime he hit the big screen playing one of those killer solos that we all have memorized note for note. Another great show, further displaying why Kiss so rightfully deserves that place in Rock and roll history. Thanks for the great memories! Long live Kiss!!
