KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Jeff Speight
I'm covering the Little Rock show for the Kissonline.com team as well. This review will focus only on my observations of what was different from past shows.

Skid Row had a pretty full house and Little Rock welcomed them. Good sound and performance.

Ted is Arkansas' kind of boy. He had Little Rock eating out of his hand. His ranting "albeit a little over the top" was probably better received here than other places.

KISS. Wow! What a show. Not having been to any other Farewell shows and only having one Reunion show under my belt, I would have to say it was on par with the Reunion show in Memphis. Paul's speaking voice was cracking. Throughout the night his singing voice rose to the occasion, but he did not overdo his voice. Many songs he would hold the high notes for as short as possible. On Love Gun, his verses sounded right on, but I didn't remember him singing the Love Gun chorus. Gene and Ace covered. No body else in my group noticed, but I have heard him singing this. Kiss covered well, though. Same show as previously noted, but Peter did NOT sing Black Diamond, Paul did. No "Beth". Just RARAN and that was it. Again, 19 out of the usual 20 songs and not many people were the wiser. Gene was evil and did a great bass solo and flew to the rafters to much din of crowd noise. Paul flew to middle of auditorium during Love Gun.

Comments on effects, etc. We were sitting in one of the arena suites and had a great view. Flames could be felt on the face in less than one second over 60 feet away!! Maybe the fire marshal curtailed some of the show, but I'm curious to know if anyone noticed on other shows the following: Firehouse: red rotating lights were working, but not on Peter's drums, no siren, no flames, just a good fireball; We didn't notice many (if any) concussion bombs and maybe one flash pot sequence; overall lack of pyro, but lots of flames; Black Diamond: didn't notice flashpots or bombs...only popping like small firecrackers (couldn't see them...could only hear them); RARAN: Gene/Ace/Peter going up on risers, but didn't notice an overwhelming amount of special effects. Pinwheels at finale, above fireworks, tons of confetti, no flames. The timing of Paul hitting guitar on the stage and the pyro was off a little. I get used to seeing the more robust pyro on the Detroit Rock City movie opener by VH1. It didn't seem as grand. Those are just observations of what I didn't notice from previous reviews. The crowd loved 'em! The show overall was great. Everyone in my group said it was the best show they have seen. Two had seen KISS in '79 in Pine Bluff and said this was better.
