KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Love Gun.
SKID ROW: They played 5 or 6 songs that were full of energy and musically tight; however, the new singer (name?) is no Sebastian Bach. He was OK but the vocals were a little garbled. Their highlight was Youth Gone Wild - the biggest pop they got from the crowd with 18 and Life second behind that.I was suprised that they had Skid Row on the screens. That is a tribute to how gracious KISS is with their opening acts. I read in a previous review that an arena was about 1/4 full when Skid Row came on. Here in Louisvlle, it was about 7/8 full from what I could tell.

TED NUGENT: Since I am a conservative, I can definitely say that I REALLY ENJOYED his show with all of the political viewpoints. YES - Janet Reno is a dirty whore. YES - we have a whore for a President. YES - Jesse Jackson is an asshole. (As the the lyris from Kiss My Ass say in part). Ted's intro was cool. It was something about Ted being your new neighbor and then the lights come up to show him smiling. Obviously, his biggest crowd pop was when he started Cat Scratch Fever. He said it was a Motown classic. Tommy Aldridge, though looking as if he is 85 from the neck up, played like a wildman.

KISS: The set list was the same as other shows previously listed except that Deuce may have been played earlier than normal.

Ace and Paul were messing with one another all night. They had this thing going about being Mr. Wonderful. Ace was late coming onto the stage for Shock Me (I think) and Paul said "Here he comes from another planet." Ace took the mic and said "Paul Stanley - Mr. Wonderful." Paul got him back after 2000 Man (i think) and called him "Mr. Wonderful."

Gene almost fell as he mounted the platform in the rafters before singing God of Thunder. He lost his footing. My guess is that he may have gotten his "blood" under his shoes before he went up. That could make it slick.

It was cool to see the mirror ball during Beth. I don't remember that being used during Beth before, but I could be wrong.

I could have swore that Ace and Gene's tongues touched during the middle of Cold Gin.

Paul had a rap about the critics always being wrong. They said in '74 that no one would buy their albums - but we proved them wrong. They said that no one would come to see them - we proved them wrong. They said that no one would show up for the Farewell Tour - we proved them wrong - 17,000 in Louisville. That was cool.

The video during Do You Love Me? was cool. And yes it made me just as sad as the others that have put reviews up here. Some of that fottage was stuff I had never seen before and I have been a huge fan since '77.

On a side note, I could have sworn that Gene walked across the left side of the stage about 40 minutes (?) before Skid Row went on. Whoever it was was wearing all black, long black curly hair, and had a gorgeous blond with him. If anyone was in the front row at that time, please clear this up. I am interested to know.

KISS NEEDS TO HAVE THEIR LAST SHOW ON PAY PER VIEW SO THAT EVERY DIE HARD KISS FAN CAN SEE THE EXACT END TO WHAT HAS BEEN A ROCK AND ROLL DYNASTY. I CAN'T IMAGINE KNOWING THAT IT IS ENDING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE IT AS IT HAPPENS.

THANKS TO KISS FOR BEING THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME. THEY GAVE US EVERYTHING THEY HAD. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER ARENA ROCK BAND/TOUR LIKE THIS EVER AGAIN.

AND LIKE PAUL SAID, "IF YOU EVER COME BACK HERE TO SEE SOME BAND AND THEY DON'T GIVE YOU THE RESPECT THAT YOU DESERVE, THEN THEY DON'T DESERVE YOUR MONEY AND RESPECT. AND REMEMBER THAT ON APRIL 29, 2000, THERE WAS A BAND THAT GAVE YOU WHAT YOU WANTED."
