KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Jason Spear
WOW! What can I say? This was just my 2nd time seeing KISS and unfortunately it would be my last. I'm Jason Spear. My uncle is James M. Spear of the 1-2-99 review of the Psycho Circus Tour. I had the pleasure to attend the concert with him, my dad, and my dad's friend. The ride up there took a grueling 2 hrs. but it was worth it. We ate at Hooters which got us plenty prepared for the show in a way. When we arrived at Freedom Hall the doors were already open. I got 2 KISS keychains (one for my friend Tasha), 2 tour books (likewise), and the shirt that reads "I hope the four guys..."

We got to our seats(9th row center stage) just about twenty minutes before Skid Row took the stage. The only 2 songs of theirs I knew were "18 and Life" and "I Remember You." However, the rest of the set was awesome. They played for about 15-20 min. and totally ROCKED! Snake Sabo sounded really good. Next was the Nuge, Ted Nugent. He was, dare I say, a Madman. His constant picking at foreigners and political figures was much to my delight. He proclaimed, "You don't see any Americans swimming over to Cuba do ya?" And had Janet Reno been at the show, I don't think she would've made it out alive. Some songs he did were "Cat Scratch Fever", "Kiss My A**", and "Wang Dang Sweet Putang" along with several others. After he did the famous "flaming arrow through the guitar" bit, he left the stage. Tommy Aldridge was most impressive to me. The KISS curtain was lowered and the house went nuts.

After a nearly twenty minute delay, the lights went down. The saying of "You Wanted the Best..." and BOOM! they were being lowered to the stage via their riser. They jumped staright into "Detroit Rock City" then "Deuce" then "Shout It Out Loud."

Gene was great. He showed that he was pleased by the crowd participation. His "demon" voice during the 2nd verse of "God of Thunder" should've been a little louder, but other than that, the tech. crew made him sound stupendous. Paul was his usual self, showing out, pointing at boobs, and pouting lips. Ace seemed a bit "out there" at times, but all in all he was at the top of his guitar skills. And Peter, the one with the supposeable physical problems, was freakin' awesome. He showed just how good he was during "I Love It Loud." My only complaint with him is that he didn't do the "go over the crowd on the riser solo." As a matter of fact, he didn't go up on his solo at all. He did, however, do about a 2 minute solo during "100,000 Years." What made my night was when Paul threw out a pick during "Firehouse" and it bounced off of a girl behind me and my uncle reached down on the floor and picked it up. I did feel sorry for the girl behind me. She was about 18 yrs! . old and 5 ft. tall. I'm 15 and 6 ft. 1/2 in.

The night was great, one that I'll never forget. I do make plans one day to somehow, someway meet KISS personally. And until then I guess I just have to type about how much I thank you for the joy you've put in my life for the past 8 yrs. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU, KISS.
