KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Terri Bey
Well, here I am going to my NINTH KISS show. I know I will be seeing them at the end of April in Tn and Ky but for some reason I felt I had to see my boys, especially ACE a month ahead of time. I could not figure out why until I heard the sad news about Ace losing his dad. SInce I'm such a huge fan of his and his dad died three days before the anniversary date of my mother's death, I was hit very hard by the news. I figured, I had more of a purpose to fly out to xas to cheer my Ace on. Also, I had fifth row seats, so I could see him easier. Anyway, I flew into Lubbock ( actually I flew into S. Antonio then to Lubbock, long story) and waited for my friend to show up and we took a cab to the show.

When we got on line, I was in for a shock!!!! The guards, or whatever, announced that they were not going to allow binoculars, cameras, or, get this, WOMEN'S PURSES!!!! NO JOKE!!!!! I couldn't believe it!! THey said something about the ladies will have their purses searched. I was freaking out because I had a condolence card for Ace in my purse. I was wondering if they were going to force me to open it. Well, someone one was selling a tour program and I got one and put the card in there. Well, it turned out that the trucks were late and we were let in at around 6:30pm and no one got searched and I was allowed to walk in with my purse, not even stopped!!!!!

Well, I did some walking around and caught some of Skid Row. They were ok. They aren't Skid ROw, without Sebastian Bach though, in my book. I did have a hard time going back and forth to my seat as I had to go through certain aisles. I DID get to run into KISS manager Doc McGhee, who remembered meeting me in the airport in Vancouver. I gave him the condolence card for Ace. Tommy Thayer was with him but I didn't get to speak to him.

I went to my seat to watch Nugent. Nugent was pretty good. I only was familiar with two tunes: Cat Scratch fever and Stranglehold. Gave a good show. Tommy Aldrige was amazing. I could do without the headress routine though.

Well, now to the good stuff: KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The band was AWESOME. They were even better than in Vancouver. They were tight musically, and were enjoying themselves. All four were in great voice. I had so much fun watching them and got very teary eyed during "Do You Love Me" when the footage rolled. I just realized that it WAS a farewell show.

Gene did his usual tongue and prowling and stuff. He played great. He tried to throw me a pick, because he must have recognized me from the Vancouver show. I didn't get it though. Gene also nearly hit Ace in the head with his headstock on his bass right before they go into that three man stance in LMGRNR.

Peter played very well. He sang Beth and Black Diamond very well.

Paul flirted with the gals as usual and sang extremely well.

Ace was just phenomenal. He played great. It was great to see him in good spirits during the show as he was laughing and joking with Paul. Ace's solo included the medley. Ace also used the stairs a couple of times. When I met Ace at the GUitar show in NYC, he told me that I looked familiar. I hoped that he would see me in the audience at the show, and he would remember me from the guitar show, and he DID. When he did see me, he winked at me. :) How cool is that?

The only complaint I have is that I thought there was a bit too much bass in the mix.

All in all, it was an awesome show and I do admit to feeling numb. After all, I am watching something that has been part of my life for over 23 years go. catch this show while you can. DOn't miss it!!
