KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Aron Crofts
Well, what can you say after seeing KISS in the form they are in at the moment? Absolutely Awsesome!!!!!

This show leaves the reunion show I saw in Perth in '97 for dead. Rod Laver Arena was packed to the rafters and the place was rocking from the beginning of The Screaming Jets support slot through to the grand climax of RNRAN, with what seemed like tonnes of confetti spewing out of a pair of cannons at the front of the stage (it literally filled the arena. Also there must be a shortage of pyrotechnics somewhere in the world, because KISS just blew up Melbourne with every fire cracker and explosion known to man!!

The song list was the same as what Dean detailed in his review (refer Perth review for 29/3/01), with some subtle additions. During the Paul only bit he started to play "I still Love You" then stopped and said, "What about This" and broke into "Hard Luck Woman". He played the whole song before continuing on with what he played in Perth.

The other addition was in the encores, prior to doing the medley thing, Ace just started playing "New York Groove", and the band joined in for approx 3/4 of the song- a nice touch. Ace obviously like's to sing these days!

There were a few malfunctions along the way. In Gene's bit where he fly's up, it seemed to take a long time to occur, and he was getting very agitated, until it worked. plus at the very end when Paul is smashing the guitar,Gene and Ace go up on lifts, well Ace's wouldn't move, and it was very much a "Spinal Tap" moment. (for those who don;t know who Spinal Tap is, do yourself a favour and rent it on video then you'll get it) Ace just cracked up and put his hand in the air a lot.

Well as they say, all good things must end, and I for one have mixed emotions about that. I guess all we can hope for is that they change their minds, and look forward to the Reunion Tour 2 in a few years.
